Well, I have the pics of the Crickets that Kbinkster posted but I don't want to post them since she put that thread in the Bathroom, maybe she had a reason to let them get flushed. I wish she had posted them here, maybe she will?
I wish I was going to the gathering so I could see the Crickets in action! Kim, will you post that thread here? Can you give us any more info on the Cricket for all of us who won't be at the gathering?
Cheers
Kym
Yes!! Pretty please! I saw that last night too and would love to find out more. I was thinking of upgrading soon, so would appreciate any and all info you have!
Thanks!

I'd be happy to, Kym and Andrea.:)
Here is the Cricket.
132023
The Cricket it is shown with the regular GTT base, it will have its own style base once it is in full production. It is available in different colors.
132024
The colors shown in the picture above are just a sample - there are more colors available. The first run will be purple. I'll have to check which color(s) will be standard and how much it will be to get optional colors.
It's designed to run on low pressure (even lower than 3 psi oxygen) and low flow to get the most out of a 5 LPM oxygen concentrator. It can also run on low fuel pressure - 1/4 psi.
On a 5 LPM concentrator it produces more heat than any other torch that I tested does on that source. It can run on tanked oxygen set even lower than 3 psi! Now, those other torches may outrun it on higher pressure tanked oxygen, but on low psi, low flow (up to 10 LPM), the Cricket outperforms them. This torch is specifically designed to run low and run clean.
The visible flame is not very bushy (a hair narrower than the Minor on 5 LPM, a littler wider than the Minor on 10 LPM, almost as wide as the Mega Minor on 10 LPM), but it does have a lot of radiant heat - not from the torch body, but around the flame itself. It also has the ability to be focused very tightly. I can get a tiny tiny needle flame on this torch for detail work.
Oh, and it does not get hot knobs, no matter how short you run your candles.
As for the price, right now they are being offered at an introductory price of $139. This price is not limited to the Gathering, btw. You can order a Cricket now if you want - you don't have to wait.
I'm in Oakland getting ready for the Gathering to start. Tonight is Open Torch. I'll update more when I get a chance.

Hmm...I was thinking of getting a kiln to pull rods from wine bottles....this is cheaper AND more fun...and I can use my oxy con finally.
Dilemma dilemma dilemma....
Out of curiosity, will these be able to handle small boro projects or are they pretty much 104 only?

You can work small boro on one. :)
So I would be able to run two of these at the same time on an OG15 and propane so I can torch with a buddy?

I was able to run two nicely on a 10 LPM Regalia. When I get home, I can dial it down to 7 LPM (what the OG15 puts out) and see how they do on that.

I wonder why they called it a cricket? Doesn't really fit in with the rest of the lineup? I think they could have called it something more appropriate like, a kitten? That would fit. LOL

Kitten would have been cute, but I named it the Cricket because it is so cute, too! I guess "Cricket" reminded me of "Chicklet" and all the colors are like Chicklets.
The guys were thinking of naming it the Chipmunk. I told Willy that if they named it that, the logo could be a little Chipmunk holding a bead.

They are SOOOOOOOO cute!! I carried one around the vendor room when Willy first unpacked them. I saw them used at open torch by lots of people, but didn't get the opportunity to try it myself, darn it! It sounds like a great torch and for the money you can't beat it. I'm looking for a new torch and this torch just adds another one to the list of possibilities.
I still have a few questions:
Would it be possible to do (small) Boro with one 5 LPM concentrator?
Would the produced heat increase a lot when two 5LPM concentrators are used instead of one?
The torch looks very nice, I was thinking about a bobcat or a mini but I think this is maybe the best choiche(It's also the cheapest!)
I worked on a torch similar to a hothead for over a year, but I am now working at the limits of the torch. I like to make big beads(up to two inches)
Flonche
2008-08-13, 7:57am
I fell in love with Cricket at open torch... I was set on a Mega Minor but after talking with Willy I was sold even before I tried it. He really knows his trade and they have been working on developing this perfect little thing for a year and a half and it's a brilliant design.
It is going to be my first upgrade from the Hot Head and I love that it's so efficient and versatile. Even if I don't need a big honkin' flame now, I know I can grow up with this torch and try bigger beads or boro when and if I want to.
The price does sound too good to be true, but if the idea is great (and it is) and the fabrication costs are reasonable, it makes sense that they are confident that the product will sell very well. Now that's not even marketing strategy to me, it's just being so confident on your product that you don't even need a marketing strategy and you can rely on your customers to defend your product -like Mike Crowley's kilns.
I can't wait to get my green Cricket!

I still am kind of confused as to where in the scheme of things the cricket fits.

Should I get a cricket instead? (obviously the price is right!)

I used it at the gathering and Must say for the money you can't beat it. As where it fits into the GTT line it is design to be use with LOW PRESSURE. If your running higher pressure then 6 lpm you may want to conceder the bobcat or lynx.
The price of 130.00 is an introduction price so get them now. At that price there is no competition. It really is a fantastic torch. Willy and Wally are geniuses.

Wally told me it would be up around $200.00 But I don't think they have settled on the final price yet. Probably watching this first production to find out what their true production cost will be. I know they are shooting to keep the cost as low as possibly. The whole Idea be-hide this torch ( my Opinion ) is a high performance entry level torch that will smoke every other torch in its class. Using extremely low pressure. Which is exactly what a person needs when setting up a new studio with limited funds.
I don't know what the pressure was set at the gathering, but I melted some small Boro beads with it. Quite nicely I might add.

Any feedback would be great.
Thanks,

The introductory price is $139. After that, it will go up to $167. For now, GTT is not offering the Cricket through any of its distributors (that means me, too, :( ).
But, if you order one directly, please, do me a favor and tell Wally I sent you.;)
The theory behind the Cricket is that instead of trying to make a concentrator set-up fit a torch, why not make a torch to fit the concentrator? So, GTT went and designed this torch to run well on very low pressure and flow.
OK, as far as how it compares to the Bobcat and the Lynx on 5 LPM, I will have to test it out. I'll try to update soon.
Thanks for the info, Kimberly. I just called Wally and told him you sent me!
I think this is going to make an excellent show demonstration torch, and probably much more.

The standard purple one is annodized just like the manifold (back part where the valves go) on the standard GTTs. So, it is shiny metalic purple. The emerald green one in the picture I posted is powder coated with sparkles. They can do a purple powder coat with sparkles, too.

Hi Deb, missed you at this years gathering. How are you.
I know you'll like it better then the minor. Thats what its designed to do, work on smaller oxy units. And what I saw and felt. Its living up to its design concept.
Another LE member PM'd with a question regarding the cricket and GTT torches in general. Here is part of my reply. This is just my opinion and what I gleamed trying out all the torches at the open torch nights at the gathering.
"Heres the thing about GTT torches vs the rest. I hear people say that the other torches have more radiant heat. But what I found at the gathering. Is that the radiant heat from the other torches just burnt my fingers and did not melt the glass as fast as the GTT's focused heat. I use a GTT Phantom, I also have the lynx that I start out with. I hold my fingers on the mandrel about 2 inches away from the flame when working with the lynx center fire of the phantom. This gives me amazing control. With the other torches I tried I had to hold the mandrel way back which felt sloppy and harder to control. Even with the phantom rocking with both inner and outer fires blazing I still can work very close to the flame. where as with the Nortel Red Max I could barley stand to hold the mandrel at the very end, and yet the glass was not melting nearly as fast as the phantom".
Now as far as any torches compare. One would really need to work with all the torches over a longer period to really find the trade offs and personality of each brand. But the GTT's burn amazingly clean.
But for me its a GTT or a GTT. My next torch will be the the GTT Kabuki. I had the pleasure of working with it at the gathering on the tanks and then on two Regalias and all I can say is WOW WOW WOW oh yea WOW.
But I'm a torch nut and a sucker for great design.

As for pimping the torches - I was actually thinking about adding some bling to the ones that I order/sell for anyone that would like that.
I now have in my hot little hands a Cricket in the standard purple color and on the standard base. It is pretty! The purple is really a metallic pinkish purple and the base and arms are silver colored. It looks really sharp just like it is. I will try to take a picture later today. Hey Catt!
I missed seeing you, Fred, and Pebbles this year!
I believe that GTT can powder coat the torches in just about any color. I don't know which ones can have sparkles, though. I'll ask what's available.
I'm glad that you like the name "Cricket!"
At first, the guys were thinking about calling it the "Chipmunk." There's nothing wrong with that, it's a cute name and I thought a logo with a Chipmunk holding a bead would be cute (btw, so did Wally - he thought of the same thing, too, independently). But, there was just something about "Chipmunk" that didn't click for this torch. They might use that name "Chipmunk" for a future torch. I don't know.
Anyway, when I was testing the torch out, I just started calling it "cricket." I thought that that little torch sure could "sing" like a cricket - you sure could get a lot of heat out of something so small - just like how small little crickets can chirp so loudly. I mainly just liked the sound of "cricket." Well, Willy liked the way it sounded, too. So, Willy talked to Wally and they went back and forth about it and eventually, Wally liked the name, too, and that's how the Cricket got its name.

I just called for my Cricket -- I'm going standard purple. The only reason I didn't jump on this faster is because I just got a Betta last week for my birthday. I'm not sure what combination of torches I'll end up with since I still have my MiniCC. But I love the idea of a torch designed specifically for low pressure O2 and fuel. I'll be very interested to see how the Cricket tests out on my 1/4 household NG. Can't wait for September!

Although they were still operable when they were running together on 7 LPM, they do run better together on 10 LPM. The 10 LPM gives about 5 LPM each if both torches are set the same, whereas 7 LPM only gives 3.5 LPM each.
Kim, The Regalia is 10lpm isn't it? So it should run two together or have I got the wrong end of the stick? At 5lpm each, they should run quite well?

I was going to go with the Mega Minor but the extra cost of a more powerful oxygen concentrator, or running two in sequence, was holding me back. This torch sounds perfect for me since I will be running on household NG but now I'm wondering which OxyCon would be best. I'm kicking the tires on Extreme Oxygen concentrators and wondering if I can get away with the EX-5 at 5LPM @ 7PSI or if I'd be better off to spend a little extra and get the EX-10 at 5LPM @ 10PSI? I don't want to spend more than I have to when there's so much pretty glass to be tried but I don't want to kick myself later for going with the cheaper option if it doesn't work. An opinions??

The Crickets were tested on the DeVilbis MC (5 LPM at 8.5 psi) and on an Invacare (5 LPM at 5 psi). I sell both of those concentrators. They are $375 plus shipping. Right now, my current supplier does not ship outside of the US, but I am working on adding another supplier for international orders.
ETA: Wally at GTT also tested the Crickets on an M-10 (the same thing as the EX-10) and what he found was that the DeVilbiss he used ran the Cricket better than the M-10. He tested the actual pressure output of each machine as it was running the torch (he ran the lines through an in-line pressure gauge) and found that while they were running, the DeVilbiss was pushing more pressure than the M-10 was, even though the static pressures were different.

Kim, The Regalia is 10lpm isn't it? So it should run two together or have I got the wrong end of the stick? At 5lpm each, they should run quite well?
Kym
Yes, the Regalia is 10 LPM and the Crickets do run well on 5 LPM each.

Thank you Kbinkster... I'm more confused than ever but I can get an EX-5 which puts out 5 LPM @ 7 PSI for just under $400 CDN$ and that might just be the way to go. Stats-wise this machine is right between the DeVilbis MC (5 LPM at 8.5 psi) and the Invacare (5 LPM at 5 psi) so it should work.
Now I just have to wait for the Cricket to be available!
I know its immature but when I decide on what I want, I want it now! Waiting until September or October seems like a eternity. Oh, well, I have too much gardening to do anyway!
will this run on a natural gas line as well and would you know how it rates vs the betta?
Thanks Kim....Love to see the burner end as well :-)

I currently have a Minor with an M-5 (Devillbis) oxycon, which I enjoy using.
Lately I've been making long gravity beads measuring over 3 1/2 inches. Would the Cricket give more heat and allow me to work more quickly in a particular area on the bead as compared to the Minor? It's a big balancing act trying to keep the whole bead sufficiently and evenly warm. It seems that when I finally get the glass flowing the way I want it in a particular area, I get paranoid and feel the need to flash the entire bead.
Any insight?

Well, I'm on the waiting list for the torch and I've ordered an EX-10 oxycon on the theory that I can always turn it down if it produces more oxygen than the torch needs. I'm getting pretty excited! If all goes well my studio will be up and running right after I plant the bulbs in the garden. :-)

1/4psi propane = NG, right?

It's the Lynx that doesn't do well on 1/4 psi NG. The Bobcat does great on low pressure.
As for the Cricket, I ran it on 1/4 psi propane (don't have NG in the studio) and it did very well.

2008-09-04, 5:22am
So does anyone know if these torches will still be available at this price for a while longer, like say, at least until the end of this month? I just found this thread (been away from the board for awhile) and I never upgraded my torch yet like I planned to do this past spring. Life gets in the way sometimes...Anyway, I THOUGHT I had made up my mind to get a minor, or a bobcat if I could find a really good deal on one that I just couldn`t pass up, ...but now I see THESE!!!! and it sounds like just the right torch for me. I bought a used oxycon earlier this year that runs a little on the tired side, but I am going to get it looked at and maybe they can tweak it w/o me putting too much $$ into it, and this torch would work great with it, I think. Heck, if I can`t get it fixed right away, maybe it would still work with my oxycon? Anybody have any input on that?
And this is gonna sound dumb, but when you call to get on the list, do you actually place the order and pay for your torch then, or do they notify you when they have one and then you pay?
Back to look at the preeeettttyyy colors.....heeheehee

When you call to order the torch they will tell you when they plan to have them ready, and you will be charged when the torch ships. The first production color has been purple. That is what is coming out the third week of September. They will email you when your torch is being shipped, too, so you know the charge is coming. xiola

I don't have a purple sparkle Cricket here to photograph. I think I have a Bobcat here with a purple sparkle manifold. It's not the same effect, since the Bobcat manifold is just that back part with the valves.
Hmmm, maybe this will help... I took the picture of the green sparkle Cricket and manipulated it:

I just read in another thread where someone said GTT users have been complaining about carbon buildup in the Cricket. Does anyone know where this is being discussed? I'd like to read more about it.
I think she said they were complaining about other GTT torches getting carbon buildup. I don't think the cricket has been used by people yet to complain. The first shipment is going out either tomorrow or early next week.

2008-09-11, 12:06pm
Ah. I see. I haven't payed any attention to GTT torches to be aware of that. So what's the solution? Frequent cleaning?
kbinkster
2008-09-11, 1:01pm
The solution is running a proper flame. If you run your candles really short with not enough oxygen, you will get carboning - on any brand torch. Usually, thoroughly cleaning any carbon build-up (because any left behind will just grab more) and then bumping up the oxygen a little will solve the problem.
The Cricket has been designed, though, so that it is easier to run really small flames without carboning up.
Running the recommended candle lengths with a neutral to slightly-oxy flame will keep carbon buildup down.
I am SO excited about getting my cricket!!!! :)
I do believe my Cricket might have shipped today! I just got a shipment notification for a package that requires a signature and I can't think of anything else I've ordered that could be it!

Mine is on order and coming back with the lynx I had that needed a cleaning :D :D :D I can't wait!! Sparkle emerald green with silver knobs (or green knobs if the clear coat doesn't work.) This torch should make it a lot easier to do my little stuff at home on my concentrator.
As far as carbon build-up with GTTs...I have never run a torch that was as clean as a GTT. I typically work on a Mirage at the studio and have only once had a problem with carbon after someone else ran the candles way too short with far too little oxygen. I gave it a good, thorough cleaning and ran it at full-blast for a minute to help clear out the carbon and voila...clean and no more carbon. These torches are unbelievably easy to care for as long as you run proper flames. As far as I'm concerned, a GTT will never disappoint.
well mine will be here the 18th. thanks so much for the intro price GTT and to those that posted the thread and the info. Sweet!!!! Christmas in Sept :)
Running the lynx on the generator, I thought it was running short of O2, I don't think the gen. was pushing enough 02 for the torch and I had to run it a bit short candled to what I thought would have been ideal. Even so, I never had any carbon problems at all.

I am on a hot head and have only used a dual fuel torch once. Did not get a huge amount of instruction when I used it.
Here goes, I see ya'll talking about setting the candles and the flame correctly. How do you know where the candles should be or how big the flame should be on a dual fuel torch? Do they usually come with some instructions? Or do you just put them together and pray you're doing it correctly?

Hi Vicki,
Most people work soft glass with candles that are between 1/4" and 3/8" long. Working 4-6" out from the face is a good distance. If you are still new at this and/or don't work fast, you can work a little further out.
The longer you run your candles, the more oxygen you have to dump into it to keep the flame neutral. So, if you are working soft glass, try running 1/4"-3/8" candles with small tips.

Well, I hooked it up and it does have a hot flame! It seems hotter than my minor and it can get a tight flame that my minor can't. The only problem I have seen so far is that one of my oxycons is showing backpressure when it is hooked to the Cricket and it does not do that with the Minor. Not sure what I am going to do about that yet - it seems as if the torch simply doesn't let that much oxy through.

Mine's comin' tomorrow. It's nice that UPS calls ahead to tell you there's a package with a signature required coming though.
So hoping this torch is as awesome as I think it'll be. This time a year I'm spending 30-40 a week on oxygen, so any savings for working on smaller stuff will be welcome.
Ok, I tested out the cricket today. I'm running on two 5 lpm concentrators. I compared it to the betta I was using by making the same boro pendant, same size, same glass. My working time went from 18 minutes with the betta to 8 minutes with the cricket. I'm hooked! Colors like DAP were much easier to get color out of as well. A+ from me.
The color issue was the main reason I bought the cricket. I want to be able to work boro and keep it HOT, which I think the cricket will do better than the minor.
Squid, it most definitely does! I couldn't be happier with the cricket.

You're welcome.:)
GTT's original concept was to build a torch that would work well with the concentrators already out there (specifically the 5 LPM reconditioned medical units), since affordable concentrator technology hasn't kept up with torches.
A lot of hard work went into engineering and perfecting this unique design. It looks simple, but it's really not. It was over a year and a half in development. To get the right flame chemistry in a torch that was not only built for low pressure, but also for low flow was a challenge. Making it affordable was another challenge. There was a lot of prototyping - a lot of variations of this design were built along the way that just didn't cut it. GTT stuck with the challenge, perfected the design, and built the highest quality torch they could at an economical price. It is hot and clean and can work both soft glass and boro while running on a concentrator and can also get a wide range of flame shapes/sizes. To quote a friend of mine, "I think they batted it out of the park with this one."
Here's a picture of the face:

We got ours! Pretty, pretty sparkley purple, great packing. I can hardly wait to try it and see if the MU likes it. It was rescheduled to arrive today and went to the main hub in NC first. However! We have it!!!!! Angelique
I got a chance to try mine on a single 5 lpm oxy con today and I don't think I could possibly be more impressed with it.
When GTT says they have a torch that can do this and that, I trust them because I know they wouldn't claim anything that isn't 100% true...soooo...I was expecting the cricket to be a good little torch, especially for people who wanted to get a bit more out of their concentrators.
In reality, what I realized today very quickly is that this is actually a FANTASTIC little torch (regardless of your oxygen source) and blows everything else out of the water as far as the amount of heat you can get out of a little concentrator (including the betta, the minor, and the mini cc). Even on a little oxy con, you can actually get this torch to give you some pressure in your flame and the heat is clean and penetrating and melts boro beautifully. Oh and the pinpoint flame is excellent...really excellent.
I definitely plan to use this torch for a lot of my smaller work. It's brilliant. :fireblob:
I used mine tonight and the transition from my minor was easier than I thought it would be. This little torch is HOT HOT HOT. One thing I noticed was that the adjustments are more sensitive than my minor - I need to lower my regulator on my propane so a tiny movement of the knob makes a small adjustment.

Pipyr thanks for your words! I now know I ordered the best torch for my needs! It is always exciting when you order something that hasn't been tested by a lot of people before. I can't wait to try it out!
Pipyr do you make implosions or marbles in boro? I would like to know how long it takes to make a small pendant. Whit small I mean 3/4 to 1 inch. Is there someone who can give me an estimate?
It is no secret that I like GTT torches. I have the Bobcat through the Cheetah, so when this one came out, I thought it would be a great little demonstration torch to replace the Bobcat when I do shows.
Yesterday I hooked it up, and before I realized it I had torched away the day. What a delightful little torch. Raku 104 rocked, the silver-laden glasses shimmered, and I found the torch to go from reducing to sharp-oxy flame with ease on my old 5 lpm concentrator. It's not a Cheetah, nor a Lynx, nor a Bobcat...it is a perfect little beading torch all on its own, and has earned its place on my workbench full time.
I don't typically make implosions and such, but when Ed was playing with it he made some rather large gathers and made a pretty good size boro bead and said it took no longer than it would have with the lynx on tanks for pieces that size. I melted a small gather on the end of a 6 mil in seconds. This thing has some truly penetrating heat. The flame is narrow but very focused and really has some drive. I was really blown away by the amount of heat in this thing!!
I'll be playing at home with it this weekend and if you like I'll test it with a small implosion. I wanted to get some pics of the flame anyway to show everyone. :D
It really is quite hot. The sides of the flame were noticeably hotter than my minor - I was burning my fingers trying to use a short that I an usually easily use on my minor.

After all the watching and reading. I emailed them on monday and they called today to get my info. I am excited to finally get my own torch. (I share a minor with my husband) Thank you everyone who has posted info in this thread. It made it easy to make my decision for a new torch! Happy as always, Lili

Okay, this may be a dumb question but I hooked my torch tonight and noticed on the instructions that it said to use 1/4" tubing. I looked at what was written on my tubing and it is 3/8" that I got from ABR and was using it with my Minor. Geez, I don't want to have to order new tubing and wait for it to come, I want to try my Cricket now!!! Will somebody please tell me that it is okay to use the same tubing.

Is it 3/8" ID (inner diameter) or OD (outer diameter)? If it fits the barbs of the Minor, it should be 1/4" ID. 1/4" is pretty standard.

O.K., I looked at ABR's site and it looks like the hose they have is 1/4" ID x 3/8" OD. They also have 3/8" ID x 1/2" OD hose, too.

Pipyr thanks for your answer!
I worked only twice with boro: once on a miniCC on tanked oxy and on a Isiheat(german torch) with two concentrators. I think it will be comparable to the last one. I just can't wait to try it out myself!!
Pipyr, thanks for your offer, but I really don't want to give you extra work. I have a rough idea now thanks!

Thanks Kim, for your answer. I didn't measure the ID -- only noticed that it was stamped on the outside of the hose 3/8" and this was after I had tightened the clamps down. So I'm thinking that what I've got is the 3/8" OD 1/4" ID. I guess I could go back and find my receipt but that might take some looking.

I hope so too....time's the bigger challenge :D
well fired mine up last night. damn its cute and small. didnt make what i had planned as I fired it up, but really like the torch. kept reaching for the blue knob that is not there.
A magnet made with 1" med wall tube and a added lens of I think around 12mm rod. not as fast as I normally make but produce it fast enough. for what this torch is and cost it is in a league of its own and the GTT quality really is out standing. Bargain of a price. thanks

This is awesome, really nice murf! A very promising example of what this torch can do. I have one ordered to hold me over until I get my Phantom and was really glad to see this. Thanks for sharing.

I am waiting for a refund from a disastrous grooming seminar I took last weekend in Hershey, PA. It will pay for my torch, so I`m glad it was disastrous. I have the colors narrowed down to red, orange, or sparkle purple. If anyone has ordered any of those colors, please post a pic here so I can see what it looks like!! Actually, just the red or orange, I believe we have a pic of the sparkle purple.

Here is a picture of the Crickets we took to The Gathering, including a red one with red knobs. The bases are silver for the Crickets being made now.

Ok, saw that pic, but wasn`t sure that red torch was red or orange, kind of looks like it could be either one. They also describe the pink as "hot" pink, but in that pic it looks like pastel. Decisions, decisions....... lol

I got a hot pink one for my sister. It is definitely hot pink and not pastel.
Hopefully I get to fire mine up this afternoon!

I`m ordering my torch today!!!
Gonna get the orange one!!
only 6 days from USA to Czech Republic (including Toll office), wow allmost unbelivable, usually it takes weeks, even months.
Hmm, i have to buy new hoses.
One question, in the manual, there is "if you use propane, set the regulator to 5lbs of pressure", does it mean that the outgoing pressure should be 5psi?
Another question, will you use flashback arrestors for the Cricket?
beadworkstudio
2008-09-23, 6:36am
I've read that the chances of a flashback on a surface mix torch (like the Cricket) are very low, but I have arrestors anyway. I just wouldn't be comfortable without them. That and I'm somewhat skeptical about "facts" I read on forums and so I play it pretty conservative.

yes, the pressure out from the tank into the torch should be set at 5psi.

It can run on a lot less, so if your regulator does not go up all the way to 5 psi, but can put out at least 0.25 psi, you can run the Cricket. I'll check with Wally about how low it could go while still getting top performance.

I got my cricket today!! That's really fast shipping!! I'm so exited. I'll get my concentrator friday or saturday and then the real torching can begin.
In the manual they stated 5 pounds, but how does that convert into bar? My propane regulator goes from 0 to 6 bar and my sinlge fuel torch runs at 4 bar. So I suppose it should be less then 4. Minors run at 1.5 bar, is that a good starting point? Or should it be even less?
Paul Ewing
2008-09-24, 5:52am
I would say .2 bar (2.9 PSI) to .3 bar (4.35 PSI) should be about right.
The 1.5 bar figure for the minor seems way high. That would be 21.75 PSI.

I got mine yesterday, only 5 days after it was shipped. It looks beautiful and the packaging was great too. Now if I can only get my concentrator and hoses so I can try it!

yeah, I love mine too - I am probably going to sell my minor.

I had a go on Cricket today. WOW so hot. A lot more hotter than my minor.
Being a GTT newbie:poke:, I think I got the neutral flame but not 100% sure. Because I think I have 1/2" candle and very long flame (compare to minor) and I can hear the hiss thingy. Do I have to run the candle shorter? Did I run the cricket on oxy instead of neutral?
Could someone possibly post the picture what the neutral flame on Cricket looks like, please? Or on any other GTT torch?
How long the candle suppose to be?
Thank you in advance.
I think my concentrator sucks instead of blows?! Yunita, I had about 1/2 candles with yellow tips and it seemed pretty good. I am going to hook it up to my O2 tank shortly and see how it likes that.

Hrmm, maybe I should take picture of the flame in the dark like yours, Kym. And use the spare didy on my camera hehe...
So hard to see the flame width during the day, even though I have dark grey tiles underneath.
