The regulator on my oxygen tank is behaving strangely and presently I am afraid to fire my torch up. I open the oxy tank valve and then begin turning the regulator adjusting screw to set my psi to 10. I can open the adjusting screw almost all the way in (tighten it), and the needle may simply stay at 0 pressure or, it may kind of pop and jump up really high but when I loosen the adjusting screw the pressure doesn't back off in the regulator.

I hope someone out here can help me out. I am really missing working at my torch.
Thanks,
Lynne

It's not going to back off on the regulator until you relieve the line pressure (open the oxygen valve on your torch).

It does sound like your regulator is messed up, though. Call your local welding supply place and ask if they can repair/rebuild it or maybe buy a new (and maybe better) one.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Yes, I did relieve the line pressure, several times in fact and, finally got the regulator working but, it will go into the welding shop Monday a.m. either for maintenance or for a new, and as you said, perhaps better one.
