Not sure of where to post these questions...this sounded like the best place!?
Anyway....I need an oxycon. My question is....I know that medical supply houses sell oxycons for patients needing oxygen, can these oxycons be used "as they are" for hooking up to my torch. Or...is there an adjustment made to the unit that allows it to be used for lampworking?
Are there any "new" oxycons out there..the 5 or 8 lpm ones...meaning do they sell these units new or are they all reconditioned?
For those of you with the new Cricket...are you finding it runs well on one 5 lpm when working small boro? I have a Cricket..haven't used it yet.
Do any of the sellers of oxycons actually have them "in stock" so that if I bought one..it would be out for delivery within a day or so? I've read too many stories of people waiting for weeks or more.

No, you can use them as they are. Just make sure that you do not turn the oxygen valve off at the torch while the machine is running or it will alarm/shut down. The trick is finding a place that will sell one to you without a prescription - from what I hear, some will and some won't.

You can find new 8 LPM AirSep units, but I believe they are as expensive as the new 10 LPM units that I sell. As for new 5 LPM units, I don't know anyone who sells new ones without a prescription.
If you are referring to the Unlimited Oxygen and Extreme Oxygen 5 and 8 LPM units, those are all used machines that have been modified(except for the M-5, Jack said that that unit is not modified - but it is used/reconditioned).

I found that it worked quite well for small boro when I tested it on 5 LPM. I bought Pipyr's tutorial for working boro on a concentrator (nicely done tutorial, btw) and found that it was very easy to do the small boro projects in her tutorial. I then started making other boro things that were a little bit larger than what was in the tutorial. The Cricket did even better on 10 LPM for boro.

Yes, I have concentrators in stock. Typically, they ship within 2-3 business days of an order being placed. Sometimes, there might be a short delay if there are an unusually high number of medical orders for my suppliers to fill(medical orders always come first). Shipping usually takes about a week, sometimes less.

You're welcome!:)
Hey, I don't know if this will help you, but, here is a picture of two Crickets running on a 10 LPM Regalia. That would put it at about 5 LPM per torch. This should give you an idea of the size flame that you would get on a 5 LPM machine.

Holy Cow....those flames look good to me! I've been working on a torch that came with a kit in the Fireworks brand. I've been able to make some decent sized beads but it took forever to get there. Now that I have a Cricket..I hope to be able to move faster...just need the oxycon. Seems like the 5 LPM would work great...and coming off of a Fireworks torch, I just may cry because of the speed of the Cricket to melt glass!
Thanks for posting the pics...you're wonderful & thorough!!!

I am brand new to lampworking (2 classes) and setting up my home studio. I called a medical supply place in my area, and they had an Oxy Con reject that couldn't be used for medicinal purposes because the alarm didn't work properly and couldn't be repaired. They sold it to me for $100 -- otherwise they would have used it for parts. Just walked in the house and am now surfing for set up instructions. There are amazing deals are out there somewhere if you're tenacious. Good luck! ~Betsy

Cheap oxy here. I have two units from them, over a year in use and no problems.I have 2 of the older devillbiss MC units.
The newer devilbiss unit here would more than run your cricket.

I wouldn't have been able to afford to do this without these guys

Hi Allison,
I bought one from Jay Wardel on ebay for cheap call hobbies r us at the time. Had to send the unit back for repair within a few months but went well. Only w/o it for a month.
Still within the warranty period. And shipping is not cheap.
That being said.....The unit that I recieved back is different. But has worked
differently. The replacement shows the hours; this is making the torch feel warmer.

I sell 5 LPM oxygen concentrators with a five year warranty for $375 plus shipping (right now, I only charge $30 for shipping, but it may be going up soon to reflect actual shipping charges). My machines are completely refurbished and that is why they are a little more expensive than the ones that are not completely refurbished.

I've heard great things about your machines, Kimberly. Another lampworker in my area said that she is about to order her second machine from you... Can't wait for my little hose adapter to arrive. Been using the homemade version with success, but looking forward to the professional version any day now.
