I am just starting up a work shop/studio. I have a minor torch and an oxiccon. How do I regulate the oxygen flow to get a reducing or an oxidizing flame? Do I use the torch oxygen control knob or the oxicon flow meter adjustment? Some where I remember that you weren't to turn off the oxygen or adjust the amout of oxygen at the torch, but then how do you get more or less oxgen in the mix?

Thanks for your advice - don't want to break any new toys.

With your torch off, open the oxygen valve on your torch all the way and then turn on your concentrator. Set the flow on the machine to 5 LPM (or whatever your machine is rated for). Light your torch (you can turn the oxy valve off briefly to light the propane first). Adjust your oxygen with the valve on your torch. Keep in mind that sometimes, getting an oxidizing flame will mean turning your propane down instead of turning your oxygen up.

I was told always to leave the oxy full open on my torch and to adjust the flow on my oxycon.
I have 2 devilbiss 5lpm units and was told the back pressure would ruin them.

I work with them right beside me so it really isn't a bother. It would be a disaster for me to ruin them, so I won't take chances.

As long as the flow meter ball is up (not resting on the bottom), there shouldn't be a problem.
