I just bought a Knight Bullet Burner & when it showed up, the tab on the base was broken off & in the box. This would be the tab that the torch attaches to. Has anybody dealt with fixing this issue? I'm considering super glue or epoxy... or would it need to be welded? (& does anybody know an iron welder in the Portland, OR area?)
Oh, & I bought it second hand & don't want to return it - its not like she can send me a new base or something.
Thanks, Andi

The Bullet Burner is a *great* torch, and the cast iron base makes it very stable. But, as you've just found out, the mounting tab is the "weak link" in the design.
You can try to weld it back together. Welding cast iron is an art, though. You might get someone to braze it for you. I don't believe that either super-glue or epoxy will be strong enough. You definitely don't want this to fail when you are torching. ;)
Or, I think Knight sells replacement bases.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try craigslist for a welder... I really wouldn't want it to come undone while I'm torching.

Welding cast iron is pretty hit and miss. You may try some JB Weld, though. That may work.

Take base to machine shop or professional welder and get opinion..... With proper preheat and brazing then controlled cooling its very much possible to have cast iron brazed....

I emailed the problem to a welder I found on craigslist & he suggested JB Weld epoxy or brass brazing. I'm going to give the epoxy a shot & see if that does it. I'll post back how that goes - I'm sure other people will have this same problem.

Just my 2 cents but be very ready to not panick when it falls apart while you are working,it will.

I, too, discourage any attempt to superglue, epoxy, or JB Weld it together.
If you really want to fix "this" base, I suggest either Brazing or welding. It will require someone that knows what they are doing, and all of the paint on the base will be removed.
Or, you can have a machine shop mill a slot in the base, and add a new metal tab.
Or, you can fabricate a new base of your own design.
Or, you can get a new base from N.M. Knight.

It sounds horribly dangerous to have a torch fall apart mid session. I don't think I would want to even risk it.
I am weighing up "possible terrible burns and flame aimed unpredicatbly as the torch falls off base' with 'new base $100"
