Hot head help help?

Hey all,
I asked this in the family room but maybe it belongs here.
please help ?Hot head Help Help?I have a brand new hot head and it wont light. there is too much gas oxy pushing out, even waaay down. If i cover up some of the little oxy holes it will light and hold a flame but when i uncover them it goes out. What am I doing wrong?

I also had trouble lighting my hothead when I first started. Be sure to hold the flame below the bottom lip of the torch, then open the valve about a half turn. If you hold the flame at the top or sides of the torch, it will blow the flame out most of the time. You shouldn't need to cover the air intake.

I had problems with my first Hot Head. The torch was defective and wouldn't light. Basically some of the valves for the gas was blocked, and the air valves were overpowering the gas outtake. I had to wait until the store brought in more torch heads and replaced it.
