Do you think the N95 Respirator is enough when using enamels? or should I go to the N100?

Go with the 100.... Why risk it..... The 100 can't be that much more expensive and it if protects better.........

My understanding is that the N100 is the minimum value that you need for enamels or fuming. Hayley insisted on N100 for the silver glass workshops she did in my studio and I have excellent ventilation.

Actually N100 are about twice as much....I buy them in bulk and they are almost $10 each.

Yes ... N100 is the standard minimum.

You can also use P100 - I think it protects everything N100 does and some other stuff (sorry, that's not to technical, is it? ;-)). Some stores, like my local Home Depot, doesn't carry N100 so I got the P100 cartridges.

I bought the n100 online at www.airgas.com for under $7.00 or there are terrific deals on ebay for bulk.

I sent an email to 3M and asked what filter to use when vaporizing silver and gold. They responded:

"A 95 class or 100 class particle filter is recommended for silver and gold fume. Using the 3M 6300 Half Facepiece Respirator, any of the 2000 Series particle filters may be used. The 2078 P95, 2091 P100 or 2097 P100 Filter are suggested. All are similar in filter performance against metal fumes."

I would buy the best I could since they aren't THAT expensive. I only have 1 set of lungs :)
