Please forgive me if this has been addressed previously, and if I have breached any Forum Decorum (hey, that rhymes!) - this is my first post ever.

I have an oxygen concentrator, respironics millineum, that was used for medical oxygen (sleep apnea). Does anyone know what I need to do to utilize it for lampworking on a minor burner?

More than likely, just hook it up. ;)

That's my dilemma. I'm not sure what I need to hook it up :)

There should be a place to screw the brass fitting on the end of the oxy hose onto the concentrator-- usually it's on the front of the concentrator. Maybe there's a hose or a cap on it now? Anyway, once you find it, simply screw the oxy hose on and clamp the other end of the hose to the torch, and you're ready to go!

Here is a graphic....

You either need a welding type hose with a "B" type connector on end (brass connector) in case of connector as in picture #2. OR you need a tapered fitting so you can just "push on" hose if hose does not have brass fitting on end. As indicated in picture #1...

On "most" concentrators the plastic tapered fitting (pic #1) unscrews to reveal threaded fitting as in picture #2.

Beautiful. It's so simple; I don't know why I couldn't figure that out myself. I'm so very new at this I tend to make things more difficult than they should be. Thanks for the visual!

let the concentrator run for about 5-10 minutes to allow maximum purity to build up, too.

And when you do this remember to have the oxy open at the torch!

Thanks for all the help. Now for another stupid question...Do I need to run the concentrator 5-10 minutes prior to each use or just at the initial hook up?

prior to each use.

Is there any need to use a flashback arrester in the line to an o2 concentrator? Is there any disadvantage? Also is there any reason not to use the oxygen tubing that would be used for the concentrator's medical uses (clear vinyl, I think)? I ask because it just fits so well on the adapter tip at the concentrator and at the graduated tip of the N. Minor. Thanks in advance.

No flashbacks needed and you can use the tubing. Some people have said that flashbacks restrict flow but I've never used them so I can't speak to that. It's never a bad idea to use them, though.
