View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : Labling glass
I am about to order some Lauscha clear, which means I'll have three kinds of glass now (lauscha, moretti, and boro). I need to figure out how to keep them separate - especially the boro, which I have to use as punties.
How do you lable your glass? Do you worry about tracking colours, brands, or just COE groups (groups meaning glass that can be used together). I have very little glass so far but I figure I may as well get organized before it gets too messy.
Thanks!

Hi Tracy! I can totally relate...I take a piece of clear tape, and tape it onto the top of my rods - with a little kinda flag. I then write the name with an indelible marker, et voila - no more chance of mixing things up! It took me a while to get this organized, but it's better late than never I suppose!

Hi Tracy,
I have heard of people marking the ends with nail polish as a color code. Red for Lauscha, Pink for Moretti, etc. Seems easy enough, especially to keep COE's straight....but I'm not that organized.

Tagging end of rod with colored nail polish or paint is probably most practical way and least likely to get accidentally burned off or removed....
Its visual and instant...

I use blank return address labels. The kind that go in your printer to make your own. I use a marker and just mark my boro rods so anything else is Moretti. (I have trouble telling the boro colors apart)
I like the nail polish but there are so many boro colors that are dark blue transparent.

I label my glass with a Sharpie.

I'm currently keeping mine in bins... Rubbermaid makes a longer bin that's meant for media storage... I think it's 17" deep or so. I just cover the CD slots with some shelf paper and put bundles of glass in there, sorted by the categories that have meaning to me! Works so far, but I can't wait for a glass rack... it's getting harder to see what I have and don't have as I amass more glass!
Best,
Amy
Because we have 4 types of glass in our store/studio now I have no labels on the morretti and use color dots for bullseye, 96, and Boro. The problem is, with handling some of the dots come off. We are now thinking of switching to nail polish on the ends of the rods. Blue, green, red, you can get almost any color you want. I've seen this done at other places. Thank goodness I have mostley Morretti. I did this because they would pick up a rod, walk around with it and put it back in the wrong place. If I want something on the glass to stay, I use a White Out pen, it shows on every color except one.
I don't label the rods, I label the storage bins. I make sure to put partially used rods back in the proper bin after I use them.
I always have two boro punties somewhere on my work surface. To keep them separate from the COE 104 glass I melted one end and squished the blob with my serrated pliers. Quick and easy and when I pick up a clear rod of glass it's easy to see if it has got the squished end or not. A tip from Corina.
For storage I recommend some kind of labeling system.
On those rare occasions I work with Bullseye I first clear my desk of any COE 104 glass and clear off every piece of BE when I'm done.
