Hi! I'm so excited! We finally moved my "studio" across the basement! My ventilation will work better bc it will need less ducting to get out the window and I'll have better cross vent. I have more room for my nice new Jenken Deluxe kiln! I haven't used it yet but I'm excited to have a big one now! My Wale Firebird is now hooked up instead of the Dragon. The Firebird is much hotter. Maybe my Raku will be better now. I got a nice new custom built work bench and a new outlet receptactle with my own breaker out of it too! All compliments of DH. Wohoo!

Anyway, enough gushing... I really do have a question. That side of the basement gets kind of wet and is always very damp in the winter. My house is 126 yrs old so there's no avoiding a wet basement at times. Is this dampness going to hurt the firebrick in my kiln?

Hugs!

As long is your kiln isn't actually in water, it should be fine. At 900+ degrees, any dampness inside there will have evaporated long ago.

Yep, Cosmo is right. But for your comfort, you might want to get a dehumidifier for over there.

Or just leave the top of the kiln open for a little while. That should get rid of all the moisture in the room real quick... :D
