The contractors started work on my garage today, to repair and storefront it so I can make it my studio. Here's a pic of what it looked like when they started this morning (the electric garage door has been removed already, in these pics, but you can see the motor up there still):

All that junk in there? Yeah, it's still there. They're bringing a dumpster at some point, and then all that will be in there is bicycles and a couple of spare doors. Everywhere that appears to be wet; it is. The roof leaks like a sieve and water is pouring in the rear windows.
I went out there this evening after they left and this is what I saw:

PURE GLEE! Yeah, it's pretty nondescript but what a VAST VAST improvement, in just one day! Tomorrow they're replacing the back windows and the door to the basement, then re-roofing the next day (I think) and then wiring and installing the blower, and then it's studio moving day for me! Thrills! I need to go buy some restaurant tables, though.

Way cool, Kalera! Filling a dumpster can be soooo satisfying! Check out your closets & stuff before they take it away!
You guys can come play WHENEVER YOU WANT! That would be so so so fun!
I'm beside myself. And Karen, yes, TOTALLY excited for that dumpster; there have been two toilets in my back yard since we bought the house, I want those suckers GONE!

OMG, Kalera, you're abandoning your SH*D?
Congrats and commiserations. Will you use the SH*D for glass storage?

Very cool Kalera!!!! Thanks for sharing the pics - can't wait to see the final set up!!
(oh and I'm FINALLY getting my gas lne installed next week!!)

Wow, Kalera! I'd be gleeful too!!!! All that space! :-) I'll bet it's just like having Yule all over again to go out and watch the progress!
I'm getting a new "studio" too, we're redoing part of our project room for my "studio to be." It's not going to be huge or fancy, but it'll be a lot nicer and have better ventilation than the corner I'm using in our sunroom. :-)
I'll start a thread and post pics when I get a few minutes this weekend. We picked up the ventilation fan (500 cfm) this weekend, and my hubby is going to work on installing it in the window above my workarea. Then we need to get pipe and some sort of hood to hang down over.

WOW! What a transformation! I would be doing a little happy dance if that were my garage. I bet you are freaking excited!
Thanks guys!
Kathy, YAY you are finally going to torch again! Did you get your table moved? Without me having to fly out and make you?
They're out there working right now, and they have a propane heater to dry it out so they can reroof. More pics soon!
woo hoo! Do keep posting picts for those of us who are just glad to have space in the cold cold garage. Or the hot hot garage depending on the season.

They were going to sheetrock it yesterday but I stopped them... I'm going for more of a "utilitarian" look, with painted concrete walls, steel workbenches, etc.
As soon as it's done, I want to have an open house! Everyone can come and melt stuff. :)
Here's the latest improvement:
No the stupid bigass too tall table is still there.
I've got a friend coming over to do a quickie drywall project so I'm gonna see if he will help me take it down!
Thanks guys!

Cool, I'll be there to torch at your opening!
So progress on the studio is kind of stalled while they work on the office... but I'm mostly moved in and it's functional (although I am going to run ductwork for local exhaust; right now the whole studio is exhausted with a huge squirrel-cage fan and it's COLD) but not pretty. I have a new heater and most of my stuff is moved in, and the bikes are still in there, argh! :) There's no where else to put them yet.
Here's a pic of the office-to-be as well as updated studio pics:
So are you going to put out a sign?
