After a power outage yesterday, I'm wondering...is it possible to use a inverter to back up the power of my chili-pepper annealing kiln? I need something that would keep it running long enough to be able to take it through the end of a cycle. We use an inverter for our pellet stove. It's a thing that can convert power from a strong marine [boat] battery into electricity. We live in a rural area with lots of trees and lots of power outages and I would invest in an inverter for the kiln if it would work! Is anyone else dealing with this issue?

Thanks
J

It is possible to get a computer UPS large enough... but I'm not sure how much it would cost. You will have to be super careful on the wattage and run time ratings. Probably cost at least half as much as the kiln.

Do not do this. A computer UPS will not run a kiln. They are not designed to operate resistive power draws.

If you have frequent power outages, consider getting a generator of a size to handle the power requirements of your kiln, but don't use a battery backup UPS.

Most battery backup UPS units only operate for 10-15 minutes before automatically shutting down. They do not have the deep draw capacity to run several hours at high wattage draws.

I am not talking about a computer back-up battery. I am asking about an invertor that runs off a boat battery. It will make 110w power for about 4 hours for our pellet stove. I am thinking I should contact the maker of the chili pepper kiln to see if he knows if I can use this. Does anyone know who makes the kilns and how to contact that company?

Thanks so much
