Latticino or Twisted Cane?

I was playing around yesterday with a graphite optical mold. I used the 5 petal flower shape, clear glass as the base and rainbow colored stripes using stringer in the grooves. I covered each stripe with clear. Then I added a maria/punty to the end, melted it and began pulling and twisting it.

I'm really tickled about this because I ended up with a length of clear glass with twisted ribbons of the rainbow colors floating in it. It looks so cool!

I'm not sure what it's supposed to be called. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between Latticino and Twisted Cane?

carrieb,I am kind of leaning toward Latticino,if neither selection applies then maybe it should be called Carrieb. Im going to try this cane today rainbow and all.Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I can claim credit for this one. I believe I read a tip on this forum suggesting using optical molds to make canes and murrinis.

I was looking at examples of latticino and twisted cane in the Beads of Glass book by Cindy Jenkins. This method is easier for me to do to get that effect.

The method in the book used a core color flattened into a paddle shape and then stripes of color were applied to the paddle.

Some of the twisted canes showed using a white base for the paddle but there were also variations of it using clear as a base with colored stripes which were melted and then twisted.

The latticino example had a white base. Which was why I wanted to ask the question. I'd swear I've seen clear base latticino with colored ribbons floating in it.

Anyway it's a great way to make some fancy trimmings for the beadies.

I believe to be called "Latticino" the base is clear. Traditional Latticino was made out of clear and white. So I would think the cane you made would be considered "Latticino".

Latticino is cane made with clear with threads of color inside it. Everything else is just considered a "twisty"

Latticino is an Italian word that literally translates as "little milk-white glass strands. According to the Italians any color used would be a complex twistie or twisted cane, but to be a true Latticino it has to be white only.

I would love to see pictures of your cane, I bet it is beautiful.

I was trying again on Sunday and didn't have as good of luck. But I learned a lot so it was all good.

I have a nice long weekend coming up so I'll go back to the drawing board and hopefully have some pictures to show later on this week.
