Hello,
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to create a list of primarily books on lampworking. I admit to being not one to know much about the contemporary or pioneering lampworkers before me and I would love to know about them. Heck, I don't even know much about the history of beads, I love history!

Now, since we rely so much on computers, perhaps blogs of lampworkers could be added to this list, even webpages.

I can try to begin this list, I know of several lampworkers I admire, but I am not sure they would want me to put their blog on a list, would they?

I have 4 books on lampworking, Cindy Jenkins "You Can Make Glass Beads" which was so easy to understand as a complete newcomer to this art. I have Corina Tettinger "Passing The Flame" a great book, bit on the pricey side but worth every penny if you can afford it. And now I recently purchased Cindy Jenkins "Bead of Glass" which I haven't gotten in the mail yet, so I can't talk about it. I just purchased Val Cox "Frit Secrets" book, which I have been loving so much!

That's it, that's all I have, I know I should have more or read more about this ancient form of art that I am so proudly learning.

So maybe people can add to this list? Any comments to the books is greatly appreciated even if that person was not the one that added the book to the list.

Sure, why not?

I love books so I have lots of them. I love passing the flame: 6 years ago, when I started I used to sleep with it... No kidding. Beads of Glass is fabulous too, I'll bet you'll love it.
So here are a few that are worth having:
More than you ever wanted to know about glass beadmaking by Jim Kervin and then the series of booklet each featuring a great artist and his techniques
All of those are a must have IHMO, worth every penny
Then of course there is
the complete book of glass beadmaking by Kimberley Adams (the only book on the subject translated into french)
and one the latest ones I’ve bought:
Glass bead workshop by Jeri Warhaftig
And to add to passing the flame, there are booklets called spothlight (spotlight on silver, on hollows and vessels, and for the inner child)
For the eye candy and also to get acquainted with some of the major comporary glass bead makers :
Masters : glass beads : major works by leading artists by Larry Scott (you see the evolution of each artist over time, it’s really interresting and enriching).

I also have the book of Lois Sheer Dubin about the history of glass beads…

You can also find some great info here: http://www.cmog.org/ (website of the corning museum of glass)

Thanks Linda, do you have a favorite? A "must have" "can't live without" book?

One of my favorite books is:
" Creating Lampwork Beads for Jewelry" By Karen J. Leonardo
I really enjoy it and pick it up often to review again.
It was one of my first book, besides Cindy Jenkins books

There's "1,000 Glass Beads" from Lark Books. It's another great coffee table book featuring work from a lot of fabulous artists.

I second the recommendation for "Contemporary Lampworking". Though boro-focused it covers a lot of core principles that apply to any sort of glassworking. Its chapter on annealing finally gave me the a-ha moment I needed for working with striking colors!
