I have a bead that is stuck on the mandrel - I've tried soaking it in hot water, cold water, using vise grips - can't get it off. It wiggles a teensy bit - maybe 1mm. My mandrels are in pretty bad shape, and I've ordered more a week ago (still waiting for them unfortunately), so that may be the problem.
I'm going to try putting it in the freezer. If my mandrels are a bit rusty, am I wasting my time?

As a last resort I put mine in a hollow mandrel, set it on the floor and tap the top of the mandrel the stuck bead is on with a hammer. Sometimes they come off, sometimes they break and make pretty cabs in the kiln. I saw another thread somewhere on here where they used a tool for rivets that pushed the bead off the mandrel.

I can not stress enough how well this thing works - it is a miracle worker. There is no such thing as a stuck bead with a rivet tool. YOu can get one at Harbor Freight for $6 - stock #38353 - or for probably $10 at a home depot - maybe a bit more.

Guy tried to get it off with his rivet tool and it broke in half. Oh well - I added it to my bag of broken-in-half beads for a future date when I have a kiln that gets hot enough to slump them into cabs.
Thanks for the advice anyway!

If it happens again try putting a rubber washer between it and the rivet gun and make sure you push really slowly. Sorry to hear that it broke, that sucks.:doubt:
