I've been having trouble with my encased Uroboros cracking. I put down a base of a Uroboros opal color, 96coe frit, then encase with Uroboros clear. I get tiny hairline fractures by the time they're out of the kiln. I've tried throwing them at the cement floor and they don't break but still I have these crack lines. I obviously can't sell them like this. What's up? Anyone else experience this?
Hugs!

I'm reviving this thread because, dammit, it happened to me yesterday! Now I remember why I put all my Uroboros away! I made 4 beads, the two with opal base, frit, clear encasing cracked after coming out of the kiln this morning, the other two, transparent base, frit, clear encased seem to be just fine. I was hoping to be able to use the Uroboros clear with some Caliente Glass soon, but don't want to waste any glass due to this cracking issue. Anyone out there with help? Please?

First, Uroboros needs to be warmer than Moretti (in case that's what you're used to) to be encased. And it needs to go into the kiln warmer than Moretti, as well.....wait for it to cool enough to be firm, then git it in fast! (No admiring your handiwork, it's deadly.)
Another concern....a while back I ordered Uroboros from a supplier, but got what I finally tested out to be BE instead. Be absolutely certain about what you're using to encase. Recently, I've mixed and matched Gaffer from Val Cox or Gail Joseph with Uroboros and Kugler with no problems at all, as long as I'm working WARM.
Can you post pix of the cracking?

Yikes! I just made some beeds like this last night! I was planning on batch annealing, so if they're going in the kiln cold, are my little beadies doomed?

Sorry, no pics, those beadies are off to the landfill. But I can tell you that both beads showed textbook thermal cracking (hole to hole, both sides, cracked in half). One was already cracked when it came out of the kiln, the second had cracks showing up a couple hours after cleaning. I have had it happen many months ago- same scenario. By the way, the base beads were opal "almond" and clear encasing. I'm watching the beads that have trans black base and clear base- they're still fine. Go figure.
