Hi again.
I am interested in playing with some design ideas with millifiori.
HOWEVER... I really don't like the selection of milli I see.
I usually see variety packs of all different colors.
Does anyone here know of any place that sells sets of similar color schemes.
I don't care about the design shape... but am totally interested in the same color schemes.
Any ideas for me??
THANKS.
Joanna

Pretty stuff, Chad. Thanks for the linkage.
Roughly how many rods would be in a quarter pound? Anyone?

Frantz (and probably CR Loo, Arrow SPrings and some others) has a catalog of Effetre millefiori. You can buy a cane of a single millefiori pattern and cut it yourself. I think you may also be able to buy chips in a single pattern.
Frantz also sells single patterns, as in this link:
http://www.frantzartglass.com/Itemdesc.asp?CartId={ADC0EVERESTB84B-4C10-4B69-8948-BE0DD86C66E7}&ic=586115&eq=&Tp=
Most of their single pattern items still do not have a picture. If you go to the Frantz site, search for "Millefiori." Make sure NOT to search for "Effetre Millefiori" even if that's what you want, because they still do not have a decent search script, and you'll get everything "Effetre" PLUS everything "Millefiori" and you'll never be able to get through all the results. (That drives me crazy - can you tell?)

Aww! Almost all the pics of Millifiori on the Frantz site won't load for me. Nuttin' but X's. :(

Dumb question time....
How does one USE millifiori...???? Someone gave me a couple as part of the Secret Santa exchange. I have no idea how to use it.
Thanks,
Barbara
Make your base bead. Pick up some millefiori with a pair of tweezers and preheat it in the flame. Heat the spot on the bead you want to put the millefiori, and stick it to it. Then melt it in. I like to put a spot of clear on top of it before melting it in.
Barbara -
Some people preheat their millefiori before using them. I usually just grab mine with some hemostats or tweezers and flash in the flame. Heat the area of your bead where you want to apply the millefiori. Then grab your millefiori and press it on/in. I try to get it into the bead about 1mm or so. Maybe 2mm. What you do next depends on how you want it to look. If it's striped, you can heat the mille and plunge the center to bring those lines in to the center. You can apply a dot of clear over the mille to keep the colors from spreading or scumming. You can heat it up and mash it to spread it out. You can heat it just enough to make sure it stays and leave it as is, sticking out. You can heat the crap out of it and melt it in totally. If it has intense black in it, you can melt it in entirely and get the intense black to spread out. So many options!

Ahhh. Cool! I'll have to go play with mine this weekend!
Thanks for the info.

At the risk of sounding dumb. How do you use this product. I had some that came with lampworking start-up kit. But could never figure out what to do with it. Do you just place it on a bead and melt it in or what.?

I have gone right off commercial millifiore - I have so much trouble with devitrification, it was driving me nutty.
