Last night I made several beads with Moretti sky blue pastel. Some of them were small, plain spacers that weren't in the torch very long. I am sure the rod was clean, and my work area is clean. The new batch I bought is rougher than the previous, so I was wondering if the black spots might be in the glass? Anyone else ever have this happen?

Are you sure they are not light turquoise that got mislabeled?

I just compared it to light turquoise, and it's definately light sky blue. In better light I noticed that the rods had a lot of white scummy stuff on them, so I gave them a bath. I had to use a scrubbie on every one of them. Grrr!
Do most people wash new glass when they get it? I clean mine with alcohol just before I use it, but haven't washed it before.
I have had the same thing happen occasionally with that color... seems to just depend on the rod.

It happened to me too with this color...so I covered it up with enamel powder.. ;).
YES!! I love lt sky blue and I've had this happen so much, I stopped using it for the longest time. Like Gelly said, some rods have the black stuff and others don't unfortunately you have to go thru a bunch of rods to find out which is which!!
