View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : Oxycon turning off unexpectedly

This past week my oxycon has unexpectedly turned off a few minutes after me starting it. I turn it back on and it runs fine for the rest of the evening (2-3 hours). But 5 minutes ago it turned off again after being on for almost 2 hours! I turned it on just to have it turning off again a few minutes later (after I started to write this post actually!).
Thankfully I was taking a break when this happened, not being in the middle of a time consuming bead...

I've had it for almost two years and I think in total it has run more than 26900 hours.
Is it time to get a new one? Any parts that could be replaced? I only clean the filter on the outside every now and then... :-\"
Should I do something about that box behind the little door?

Kikki,

When mine started doing that, I got a big floor fan and put it so it was between the wall and the concentrator, and blew toward the concentrator. That fixed it for me.

Thanks Jo, I'll try that. So you think it shuts down because it gets over heated? Or rather, shuts down before it gets too over heated.

I've also found the place here in Gothenburg that supplies all kinds of medical supplies for the hospitals and sent them an email to ask if they sell second hand concentrators. A second back up oxycon could be a good idea anyway.

Overheating was the conclusion I came to, just because the fan worked. :)

When was the last time you changed or checked your filters?

The filter on the outside or a filter on the inside, Karen?

take the filter on the inside, and pull it out. Check to see how dirty it is. Rarely, a clogged filter can cause those problems. So can a worn out compressor. If it has never been rebuilt, with the hours it has on it, its possible that it needs a rebuild.

I just got one that my mother had used in her nursing home. Can I use it as is or does it need some modifications ??

you should be able to use it just fine assuming that its working properly. Might want to change the filters though.

OK, I managed to pull the inside filter out and wouldn't you know! It's manufactured by a Swedish company! (I bought the oxycon in Germany so I was pretty surprised to find that out).
It looks pretty grey and I've emailed the manufacturer to see if they are willing to sell me just the one filter.

I hope your Concentrator enjoys its new filters! Should take about 7 days to arrive to you in Sweden :)

Yay Justin!
Thanks for your help! I'm going to refer another Swedish friend of mine to you for when she needs new filters for her oxycon.

I got my new machine yesterday BTW so I can still work but it'll be nice to be able to have two workstations in the future when I get my Betta.

or maybe hook both machines together with a y connector for now? :)

Hmmm, that is an interesting idea. Can I make a y connector myself? (I'm thinking hose, a sharp knife and duck tape...)

PM Sent! :)
