I have a hot head, I can use either propane or mapp guess. Which do you all prefer, my favorite thing is raku, I would think mapp gass would work the raku better? what is your thoughts?

i'm not that experienced yet but i have a hot head and was told that the mapp gas burns cleaner and hotter..i have tried to work with raku but can't get the great colors and i've been told that it's because the hot head won't get hot enough with even the mapp gass..i think to be successful you have to really work the raku a long time to get any color out of it..the best way to get the most out of raku is by going with oxygen/propane..like i said i'm fairly new but i think that is how i understood..hope it helps..

Mapp definitely! Propane will just leave ucky residue on your beads and ruin transparent beads.
As for the raku, try doing the hot to cold thing to get some color out of it. Rest your marver on an ice pack. Roll your bead on the marver then hit the heat and repeat a few times. I've heard it works sometimes. I can't promise since the raku craze came out way after I retired the HH for more heat.

We recently made the move from bulk MAPP tanks to bulk Propylene, and we're loving it!! It burns even cleaner and hotter than the Mapp did, and in our area, it's cheaper.....85 cents/lb vs. the $1 per pound we were paying for MAPP. If you can find a supplier for Propylene, give it a try!

Just wondering where you are getting your Propylene? A welding supplier or the like?
Thanks

LOL! Angie, I'm using a Bobcat now which is why I didn't know they had gone from MAPP to Propelyne. Oops! It's been a while since I bought MAPP. LOL! Thanks though!
AirGas in TN sells it and other gas suppliers. I would call around before making the trip since not all suppliers carry or sell to the public.

I should add, that both my propane and mapp gass here burn extemely clean, so would I upgrade for just hotter heat? I dont get any residue from either one.
