Greetings!

Lampworking has been on my long list of 'I'm going to do one day' for
quite some time. That day is here.

Running out of things to buy with a particular hobby store's 40% off
coupon, I sauntered down a stained glass aisle to find a lampworking
kit. Though I realize the components of the kit are simple at best, it
is enough to get started. As I learn, I can acquire better products.

So. On my mark. Get set. Get stumped. I'm stumped. I cannot seem to
find any glasses anywhere, even in the bigger towns near us. I wrote
to a particular lampworking supplies company, but they can't really
suggest specific brands of glasses for legal reasons. Understandable.

Although I read the safety sheets on the internet, I couldn't really
find the glasses mentioned in the sheet. A few nights ago in chat, I
thought I saved the information several helpful members gave me,
but apparently I did not bookmark it correctly, and did not know how
to go back in and get the chat history, if possible.

At any rate, could any of you suggest a good pair of glasses? I'm not
looking for cheap, I'm looking for safe, but still be able to see what I
am working on. I can see things much better with my close-up glasses
on, so will have to consider snap ons, clip-ons, etc.

Thanks for any and all help,
Karen Marie :-)

since you're just working with soft glass, you need enhanced didymium glasses. malcom at artco has them, they are the philips 202:

he also has stick on magnifiers to help you see better close up:

good luck, have fun! :D

I got my clip-ons from Arrowsprings and readers from Aura Lens. :)

For soft glass, either AUR92 from AVE (aka Aura Lens) or ACE202 from Phillips are the way to go to protect your eyes. These are typically items you have to order from one of the major lampworking suppliers (Arrow Springs, Frantz Art Glass, Artcoinc, Wale, ABR Imagery, etc) - rare to hard to find otherwise unless you live near one of these suppliers.

Looks like the Ace 202 Fitovers are what I am looking for, that way
I can wear my regular glasses with them when I need to.

Oops - sorry for the typo, Ed!

Karen Marie - AVC also makes a really nice AUR92 bench shield. These came out long after I'd gotten my glasses, but I have one and love it, as do many folks who have posted about them. If you haven't already gotten your glasses, I'd recommend seriously considering one. No more having to stack glasses....

Hello Linda,

Cloudcroft! I used to live in Ruidoso and half the bottom right corner
of New Mexico. LOL.

Many thanks. I did find a pair of fitovers for fifty bucks, so once I get the
hang of lampworking, I may likely end up checking out the bench shield.

This is going to be great! Shame I didn't order them a day before, maybe they
would be here by the weekend, and I have Friday off...would have been a
great time to practice.

Thanks, everyone!
