It has been awhile since I last torched and I have forgotten many of the cool effects different glasses make. (like gold rubino and iris orange etc...) Is there a source that has compiled all this? Most books show how to make a certain kind of bead, but it would be nice to have a 'special effects' source book/compilation of the different glass manufacturers. Any ideas?

I can't think of any one book that would do this. Corina's colour reactions mini book may give you some info, you might want to buy some of the tutorials here, and for silver glass, try the Patio thread, or purchase Hayley's silver glass exchange cds.

Carolyn, thank you for the suggestion! I went to Corina's website which directed me to Franz glass. The book is called Spotlight on Magic Color Reaction. I will also check out the tutorials you mentioned as soon as I can figure out where they are.

I have the 'Spotlight on Magic Color Reaction' and find it very helpful.

I have run exchanges (over in the Patio) for the last three years that deal with the reactions ... and the last two I've made a CD of the beads with descriptions of the reactions ... the colors used and the effect. They are the most complete sources of glass reactions (other than the silver glass reactions that I have left to Hayley) that I know of.

This years issue is 56 pages long (about 48 of those are reactions). (will be available on my etsy store once the exchange participants have their copies mailed out later this week).

I took part in the Spotlight on Magic Color and it's what got me started on all the wonderful reactions glass can have ... great book!

Rhonnie, Thanks for your endorsement of the Spotlight book!
Sadiesjewels, I will email you about your reaction exchange issue - sounds interesting.
Thanks!

Judy, if you are interested in my silver color e-booklets (thank you, Carolyn and Sadie for recommending them!) on silver glass, we have three with SE3 being the latest thus showcasing the more current silver glass:

Hi Hayley,
I am a bit of a newb, and I'm not sure what silver glass is. Is it encasing the glass with silver foil then marvering, or making stringers with foil? I'll pm you.
thx,
Judy

Thanks Judy!

Since I'm posting I'll add my 2c on silver glass in case Hayley doesn't appear for a minute or two!

... silver glass is glass that was designed to imitate the boro glass effects and they have a high silver content to get these effects (hence silver glass). There are a few different companies out there producing the silver glass - Double Helix, Precision, TAG ... striking color ... as well as the regular glass companies that have their own silver colors - silver brown by Reichenbach, Hades by CIM and silver plums by Effetre to name just three.

I'm sure people will chime in with more!
