Here is my hood with baffles. I bought the metal sheet at Home Depot. The hood is from Glasscraft. The fan ducts out a window. The ducting should be smooth metal ducting, not flexible ducting. (You may already know that!!!)

My husband built me a modified "Barley" top box. Love it, works great...http://www.lostlakedesigns.com/images/studio7.jpg

How does your box fit into odd shapes of the windows? I have a window in front of my work station as well. I have finally persuaded my husband to increase my ventilation situation and to consider building a Barley box. How about a reasonablely-priced fan that will work with it?

I have the Glasscraft hood, too. It's got an inexpensive inline duct fan that looks like this (http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?CNTTYPE=PROD_META&CNTKEY=misc%2fsearchResults.jsp&BV_SessionID=@@@@1549007175.1139758807@@@@&BV_EngineID=cchhaddgmkhekemcgelceffdfgidgll.0&MID=9876).

There is a great article about ventilation in Glass Art Magazine.

Hi, I'm new here, and to lampworking. I'm want to set up my studio in a room I have downstairs. There is a window, but I'm concerned about proper ventilation. And also, would it be safe to have a set up in a downstairs room?

You deffinately came to the right place for info. If I were you I would go to the Safety etc. http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=39 That is lampwork safety Etc. Loads of info there. Way to much to go into now. Just start reading. But the answer is yes. Thats were I started and it can be done with the proper exhaust fan and ventilation. You are truely not safe untill you do have the proper ventilation. Hook up with Mike A. or Dale M. at lampwork safety They have all the teqnical jargon. That can be difficult to decifer sometimes. But you can also send me an instant message and I would be happy to talk one on one in laymens terms on the phone. I just finished setting up my studio and am very safe now. I'Good luck
