View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : What Glass is This?
I inherited some rods of what I think are 104 COE glass.
They appear clear but if you look closely they have little sparkles all through the rod.
I think they're some kind of "special" glass since they were separate from all the other rods I got.
Any ideas? :-)

It could be Olympia Rain. Some of the batches have teeny tiny bubbles throughout the rods that do look like sparkles.

what color are the rods?
Shawnette says she thinks it might be Double Helix too...the rods are colorless clear.

Try to strike the end of the rod, then you'll have narrowed it down to a silver glass or not.
If it is OR, you've hit the jackpot!

Jackpot indeed! I still have some of that stuff and have been hoarding like mad. Hmm, maybe I can get a trade out of it!
I can't get anything to happen. I think I need to work it some more.
I'm searching OR to see what it does.
I'll try to get a good pic but I don't think the sparkles will show up.
Oh yeah...it's old glass. Probably 4-5 years old?

Another suggestion, still a silver glass, how about Precision104 Sissley as well?

Olympia Rain definately goes back a few years. Are the cut ends a blue tint? My OR rods have a slightly blue hue.
Sounds like Olympia Rain to me as well. :D

Oh, another hint for Olympia Rain, the rods that I have aren't perfectly round...some seem a bit squished but they work just fine. Lucky you for whatever this turns out to be! :)

Not all the OR batches have a blue tinted end. Trust me...I think I've had some from every batch they ever made.
These aren't tinted blue.
The little metallic flecks almost look like dichro. They're multi-colored.
My OR has some small lines in it, kinda like bad Diamond Clear, but no sparkles.
How big are the rods? I have some dicro stringers. That's almost what they sound like.

I have some Caliente Northern Lights that I would describe in the exact same way you described your ??? rods.
I have dichro stringers and I know it's not that. They're full sized rods.
It could be Northern Lights Chris. Mom had some other Caliente glass too.

Try putting a dot on ivory. Even if you couldn't get it to strike, it will have a reaction with 104 ivory if it's a silver glass. Not everyone had good luck striking OR, but those who did are forever in search of more! Me included!

Ok, good to know! Thanks, Amy!

What about Effetre Cool color Marine Wave, it has bluish green specks through out the rod.
Now that I've worked with it a bit I think it's Northern Lights. It's really really stiff so I'm guessing it's 96 COE.
Thanks for your help everyone!
