Has anyone here ever made a pacifier before? I want to make a fairly large one as a gift to my niece and great-niece and wanted some tips and or pics of inspiration. I have an idea of how to go about making it but I always end up saying "it sounded good on paper".

I would do an implosion or vortex in the "pacifier" end, punty up to that, burn off enough glass to make a gather and then flatten out almost like another maria for the flat end and then make a large loop for the handle.

Edited to add: I would probably wrap a solid color around the rod that I burn off to make the second maria (the flat part of the pacifier) so the flat part is a solid/contrasting color as the background for the vortex or implosion.

Like these? I make them regularly...and have been for about a year - they are in my Etsy!

You are my Honey Bunny!

I will make some tomorrow night and post them. I just sent the one I made me for my Grandson to some of you that PM'd me. It is the only one I have handy right now.

De, those are great! Did you make them on or off mandrel?
I want to make it bigger but these pics will help me figure out how I want to go about it.

Honey girl...

These were made on a large mandrel - 5/32" I believe - and they are easy-peasy! Lay down your footprint, which is the "ring" portion. Get it nice and even and smooth. Add a large dot somewhere on the "ring" (a couple dots actually to make a nice "glob" gather...) then get it good and hot (while holding it pointing downward so it doesn't melt in too much) and the turn it upward, and press the dot flat with a graphite marver. Add a dot of amber on top of this in the center and heat the end to let it "bulb" up a bit. Ta-da, binky!!!

This method would probably work on a much larger mandrel (like 1/2" to 1") you'll just have to test it out and show us your progress, OK?
