Encasing with clear frit ???

Can it be done successfully ???? Has anyone tried it and if so did it work well.

Spiral dance glass websit shows uroboros clear frit for encasing can it be used with moretti ? ( dumb question - but I really dont know)

Because its reactive - what does this mean exactly?

I'm glad you asked this question - I got some of that clear frit from SDG, but haven't tried it yet. I'd love to hear what people have to say!!

Clear frit doesn't encase well (as in fully encasing for a paperweight-type effect), BUT it makes a very pretty "sugar coated" effect (think gumdrops) and looks very cool melted in LIGHTLY over reduction frits. Make your base, melt in reduction frits, melt in the clear frit, then reduce...you get a webwork of reduction with pools of pure color speckles.

Oh, the other problem is that if you try to roll the frit thickly, you'll get lots of little bubbles.

Desertdreamer is right, you can not do a full encasing with frit, your base bead will always bleed through ( for example, if you are making flowers and want to encase those, you really need a rod to do so).

THe sugarbeads are really cool, I have seen some of the cutest snowbals made with that, and you might want to try it over Raku, clear over raku gives more of a soft pastel look to the raku.

Thats what I thought....was sure that the base would bleed thru. Okay well the glass says its leaded.....is this dangerous ???

Yes it's dangerous, but most glass is dangerous. As long as you have proper ventilation you're allright:)

I also need to mention tha Uroboros is NOT compatible with Moretti or Vetrofond.
You may not be able to encase with clear frit but it sure does make some pretty "sugared" beads. LOL!
