ok, a while back I was ordering frits from Olympic, they were out of R clear 00 frit so I got Gaffer cuz the gal talked me into it, in 00...and 00 in gaffer is like flour/powder, a whole damn kilo...darn it.

can't make sugar beads out of it....so it sits here and I know there must be some use...so anyone have idea's of use for it??

could I mix some thompson enamels in with it?? and make look watercolor like on beads?? or is that a no no??

any ideas of what I can use it for??

or how I can use it and be happy?

You can use enamels with it - you could make a little "blend" of your own with it. I like to use clear frit to create texture and vary the color slightly. I haven't tried it with powder, but I'd like to. I'll take some off of your hands!

I do some glass fusing and it is great to coat a small pendant or to coat an area of glass that you want encased. I usually cover my pieces with clear glass that I cut to the correct shape but the clear fine frit often is handy for some of the hard to cut pieces. If it is compatiable with your glass rods you can use it to encase. I put it in the hole of a marble or bead shaper and roll the bead in it. It gives a nice clear coat without changing the size of the beed as encasing does.

Kaye, I'd be happy to rid you of some of it also.
If you have too much, let's make a deal!
THANKS.

Hi Ann
you can't use it to encase, here is a bead I tried doing just that.

the clairity isn't there for encasing its more foggy'/beach glass lookingI do some glass fusing and it is great to coat a small pendant or to coat an area of glass that you want encased. here are a few others I made with the powder...I added some other powdered glass from a sampler I got from frantz a long time ago to give shading...
so its usable stuff...I did send a big baggie full to Deanna Chase, maybe someday we can see what she came up with.

but here is mine for now...

Actually, I think those beads are pretty cool looking! They have an ancient, excavated look to them that I really like.

I especially like the mottled texture on the second bead. It gives a similar look to boiled enamels.

I really like the texture the powdered glass gives to these beads. May have to add it to my list of must have someday!! It's a very long list and gets longer everytime I view such pretty beads on this forum:grin:

Kaye; I really like what you did with the powder. I had to smile when you posted the bead that you tried to encase with clear powder. Last April I ordered clear glass enamel, from Thompson, in two sizes...80mesh [smallest] and another mesh that was a bit chunky. They'd just come out with moretti compatible clear. I thought I'd never need to learn to encase with rods ](*,) but the glass powder did the same thing as yours. The result was very cloudy. I learned to encase.

I read on a website [Spiral Dancer?] that the clear frit could be used to encase. I wonder if anyone has actually tried it.
