I'm on a minor with propane and tanked oxy. Sometimes the flame changes while I'm working - it's like it gets a sudden burst of propane. Not a lot, just enough to turn in to a very slightly reducing flame. When this happens, it doesn't make any strange noises and it's very quick, then it goes back to normal. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this and what I do about it? Thanks!

Could it be your propane regulator? Take it into a welding shop and have it checked.

Are you using a full tank of propane? I've had that happen, but it went away after I used up a bit of the tank. I never get mine filled all the way now. Propane tank, that is

I have the same situation...sudden bursts of flame. Very annoying when carefully placing dots!

If I remember correctly (big IF)...last summer there was a similar post and someone suggested that the mix of propane and oxygen wasn't right. I keep my oxygen dial at 5 (the highes) and my propane regulartor around 2.5 - 3.

Hmmm.....anxious to read what others say about this.

Thank guys! Alex, the regulator is pretty new, less than 1 year. Maybe I still need to have it checked though.

Roberta, it was full, but I had used quite a bit before this started happening. Good tip!

Kathy, I run mine a little higher than that (which may be why I run out of oxy so quick  ), but I'll try your settings and see what happens.

Thanks again everyone!

I should have mentioned that I use an oxycon not tanked oxygen. I was told it wouldn't get any higher than 5 - oh, I forget the unit measure here...I'm talking about pressure. Anyway, the propane should run at about half of the oxygen pressure which is why I adjust the propane regulator to about 2.5.

Sorry....it's been a long day. I'm probably not making sense! TGIF!
