I've spent the last few weeks working on putting together my own photo "studio", experimenting with a lot of different ideas. Perhaps my experience can help some of you that are looking to do the same without spending a lot of money. Mine cost around $50, including lighting, much better than the several hundred for some commercial setups. More info is here:

Here is the set up that I use. Same principle as yours but I used a white opaque plastic box and white art cardboard from the news agency except that I lined the outside of mine with aluminium foil. This turns my set up into a giant soft box, bouncing light every where for reflection free even lighting. My lights are a couple of 150 watt tungsten halogen work lights on clamps from the hardware store and 2x 500 watt tungsten halogen lights overhead on lab stands that I had. Yes these are warmer at about 2900 degrees kelvin which is the same as a normal light bulb but I set my camera to Tungsten in the white balance menu,
