IT'S FINALLY READY!!! Please check this link for more information: http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=164981 and it's now listed in my Etsy! Oh, HAPPY DAYS!!! ~De
Hi All!
Well, after LOTS of requests, much debating and a lot of help from my daughter and a couple of wonderful LE members, I'm almost ready to premier my "Skull Murrini" Tutorial which will be available in my Etsy...SOON!!!
I will be providing not only step-by-step, detailed instructions on how you too can make these cute murrini, but will include information on smooth, perfect application (no more smearing!) and a couple other cool tips!
If you've not seen them before, here's an idea of how the murrini look applied:
Sample Murrini:

Applied to Beads and such:

ALMOST THERE! :) All pictures are ready and edited; working on the text now. This has definitely taken longer than planned, but after getting started I decided it was really important to include a special section on "Theory of Construction". In essence, this will give you a guide not only on how the skull shape is constructed (and how to "graph" it out on paper first) but can be applied to any other design you have in mind (within reason, of course!)
Hoping to have this done by mid-October...
Here's some snaps of the photos:

In addition, murrini created during the photo shoots will be available in my Etsy for purchase in the next day or so!
Hope you are all still interested!

Oh, thank you so much for popping into this thread - and prompting me! I've been so crazy busy with "stuff", but yes, I'm almost there - and if there's still interest, I can get it together by the first few weeks of Jan.
Thanks everyone for being patient with me!

DeAnne - I thought the June meeting for So Cal Flame Surfers is going to be held at The Mandrel, Donna's (zen-mom) shop. It's located at 553 Mary Ann Drive Redondo Beach, Ca 90278. At least that's what the website: http://www.socalflamesurfers.org (http://www.socalflamersurfers.org) says and so does The Mandrel's website. I'm planning on showing up at The Mandrel.
We do have meetings at different venues, so maybe you're thinking about the December meeting?

Well, I've written Judy and I'll give Bindy a call, too, just to be sure! Thanks, Susan, for posting and sheesh, how awful would it be if I showed up at one place, and the meeting is at another location! ](*,)
If I'm mistaken and the meeting/demo will be held at "The Mandrel" and NOT "Pacific Art Glass", I'll be sure to correct my Post #1 right away...
Thanks again,
De
PS - I think I'll call Donna this a.m. and just double check...thanks again for the "prompt". Doh!

I missed the last board meeting so I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure nothing has changed. We usually hold our June meeting at The Mandrel.
I sure hope we meet up at the same place. I don't want to miss your murrini demo. You make some amazing murrini!!

Thanks Susan! I'm confident we won't miss each other; I've heard from Judy this a.m. and am awaiting an ABSOLUTE ANSWER on the June 19th meeting location so we can FOR SURE all be at the right place!
I'll keep everyone posted...

OK - My first draft is done! :) Whew! It's been sent to three trusted proof-readers for review. I'm hoping to receive their input, make revisions and am aiming to have it available in my Etsy by no later than June 5th! Woo Hoo!
In addition to the step-by-step Skull Murrini Tutorial, I included sections on:
Alternative Red/Black Eye Cane
Hot Head How To Section for Working Larger Gathers
Murrini Cutting Guide
Murrini Application Guide
In draft form, it's 32 pages with 110 photos! What a project...hope everyone likes it! :)

Oh, and just so you know and are prepared:
MATERIALS NEEDED TO CREATE THE SKULL MURRINI
Glass:
• 1 Full Rod of Effetre “Pastel White” (regular sized 6-8mm); CiM “Peace” works equally as well.
• 2-3 Rods of Effetre “Pastel White” or CiM “Peace” Stringer (size 2-3mm)
• 1 Rod of a dense black, such as CiM “Hades” or “Tuxedo” (standard sized 6-8mm).
• 1 Rod dense black Stringer (2-3mm) such as “Hades” or “Tuxedo”.
• 2-3 Rods (standard sized 6-8mm) “encasing” Clear of choice. I personally use Lauscha 104 Soft Clear (not “reformulated”) as I have found this to be the best performing clear on a Hot Head.
• 2-3 Rods “encasing” Clear Stringer
• 2-3 Rods of Clear “waste glass” for end capping. I use Moretti Clear Stringers.
Tools:
• 2- 5/32” Stainless Steel Mandrels for “starter” punties
• Graphite Hand-Held marver
• Small flat-shaped Steel Spatula for shaping (a “Dental” spatula is perfect!)
• Wheeled Murrini Nippers or Title Nippers for cutting murrini slices
• 8” Non-serrated (smooth interior) rounded end tweezers
• Stainless Steel Punties. I can’t recommend enough the wonderful punties I use from Kris of Noodlesaurus! (www.noodlesaurus.com, click on "Mandrels and Tools") I own several sets; I will be using 1” diameter end pair for this Tutorial. Boro “Maria” punties are workable too, if these are what you are used to.

I just have to comment on this tutorial!! Today our chapter of ISGB had our quartley meeting and De came and did the demo for us on the skull murrini. What a thrill and I have to say that De breaks it down into easy steps. I have never been interested in Murrini because I didn't know where to start but this is something I think I can do. Also she teaches you to simplify a design so once you try the skull murrini you will have a better understanding of how you can make your own designs. Now, I have always been intimidated by murrini because I thought I had to have a million glass rods making the picture. I won't spill the beans but let me tell you De has come up with a much, much easier way of making these. They are so adorable and she has a new fan. Thanks De!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw De demo her skull murrini at our meeting yesterday and she was awesome!! Thanks so much De for coming and sharing your talent!! I learned a lot and the tips on applying the murrini and how to keep it from smearing were great!
Hope to see you again at another meeting if you can make it!!
Cheers

I agree with Bindy and Kathy. De is a gem. She gave lots of tips and tricks in making murrini. The skull tutorial is a great way to get started. Seeing her murrini in person was great fun. Her flower murrini are awesome!! So much detail and I just love all the characters. They are way cuter in person. Thanks for a great demo!!
Susan
De, I got the tutorial and have read through it. Wow! You shared soooo much info! Can't wait to try it out!

Aw...you guys are so nice! Thanks so much!!! :) Very special thanks to Donna at The Mandrel for trying her best to get her Creation Station set up for me and for letting us have the meeting and demo at her studio...sorry to have been such a PITA! And I sincerely appreciate all the support and help from Bindy (The Mad Beader) Judy (Crzy4wire) Dave Holton for lighting THAT torch for me () and taking my pictures - and everyone else. It was really great to see some old friends and make some new ones too!
I was kind of a nervous wreck...and being that I am such a Hot Header, I was a bit skeered when it turned out that I had NO CHOICE but to use the Mini CC for this demo! My first time on a "big girl" torch, and making something more complex than just a spacer...but I think it worked out pretty well after all. And now, of course, I'm gonna really PUSH the hubby to help me get my oxy/fuel torch up and running!!! No more excuses, right?
Here are a couple snaps from the meeting...and thanks everyone for being patient with me, for hanging out and sitting through it. I know it wasn't a short demo, but for me at least, it flew by!
