If you put gold leaf on a bead and etch it does the gold lose its shine?

Morretti makes a dark blue that fumes wonderfully with silver, Kate Fowle Melaney taught this in a class I went to but I can't find it in my notes. Does anyone know which glass it is?

Thanks!!

Oh, and silver as well as (most? all?) silver glasses stay bright/unetched when dipped in the solution, too!

Sorry I couldn't help with the second question though. I'm sure someone will help you out!

I etched some beads with gold leaf on the surface and the gold leaf all came off. It may have been because the leaf wasn't marvered on enough but it could also have been because the glass holding it was etched off.
The glass which fumes well and reacts with silver is transparent cobalt.

I've etched gold and it did not come off and it stayed shiny. Your mileage may vary.

I personally like transparent cobalt for fuming and silver but I couldn't tell you if that is what you learned in class because I've not taken a class with the same teacher.

Good luck.

I took the same class a year or so ago . . .and my notes say transparent cobalt blue. She is a great teacher . .. i learned so much about fuming and enamels.
