I read in a thread that some people are using stained glass cut up on their torch. Is this compatible with anything else? Does it work well? I have a pretty good amount of scrap that I would like to try. Thanks alot!

Depends on the glass. Spectrum cut up into rods is usually compatible with each other, Systems 96 is definitely compatible. Wissmach is not generally mixable, Bullseye is. But just remember that only use glass from the same company don't mix. Spectrum is 96, Bullseye is 90, Wissmach is 90-98, etc. none are really compatible with the 104s. You could always use the strip of SG for spacers as you won't be mixing.

Remember to clean the strips you cut really well. The oil from the glass cutter will leave residue in your finished beads. It's a little harder to deal with the strips. Not too bad once you get used to it. I always try to gently hold the strip as to not get cuts. The strips can pop a lot easier too. When you first try cut your strips very narrow so they "feel" more like a rod. Once you get the hang of it the strips can be fairly wide - especially for encasing.
Definately don't mix types because of COEs. If there are colors combinations you would like to try out you can either make a test bead or layer pieces in a kiln and fuse.
Good luck,
Kathy

Just one thing to add: Of all the non-compatible glass I've used, Wissmach tends to hold its color the best. I don't know about Spectrum, because I only have their system 96 glass. Youghiogheny, expecially the stipple and reproduction glasses, turn grey or brown in the kiln or the torch. And I've heard from several sources that non-tested Spectrum is almost always 96 COE.
To get rid of the sharp edges, just run your abrasive stone lightly across each edge. It's tedious, but you won't get cut.

Thanks everyone! I do buy my stained glass at hobby lobby! I just bought a bunch 50% off. Not sure what brand they carry. I have a glass grinder so that will help with sharp edges if I can use this glass. I guess there is no better way than to try it :-o

It's Spectrum, Meadow. I'd probably try using the different colors together, and just take good notes and accept that some will break.

Meadowsky.. I use Spectrum flat glass , System 96 and their other glass.
I have seen Kate Drew Wilkinson vids and they are great. I have now ordered a sample pack from Spectrum so I can identify their glass. Anything I am unsure of I make spacer type beads. I also love Kokomo glass and have ordered their sample box as well.
Have fun with it all.
cheers
Christine
