I am looking to upgrade from my Minor to a torch that can do a pinpoint flame but not have to be turned way down. I think I want either the Lynx or the Piranha. I wish I could just test them both but can't so I am relying on the LE experts.
Can both give me a hot pinpoint flame?
Will I be happy with the heat using the two air sep concentrators I now own?
If you were to choose which would you pick and why?
Why is the Lynx almost $200 more than the Piranah?

I have used both a lynx and a piran... I think they are in two seperate torch classes. The lynx is most comparable to a Bethlahem Baracuda while the Prian is more like a mini cc or minor. Thats why the cost diffrence. You can get a pin point flame on both of them.. but if you want to work boro, you are going to get more heat and faster melting times from a lynx. Dont get me wrong, you can do small boro with a piran. You can just do larger pieces with a lynx.

If you want a lynx and dont want to pay the full price for one.. you should check out my lynx for sale in the swap shop. I really love that torch but I am upgrading to a larger one. I will take reasonable offers on it too!

Thanks Holly. While I have so much more to master with soft glass Boro is in my future. You post has me leaning towards the Lynx. My husbands theory is if it cost more it has to be better, lol.

Suzy, if you are going to do boro down the road and are going to shell out more money, might I suggest the Baraccuda. It has the Piranha inner fire, for that pinpoint flame plus it has the outer fire and the flame is huuuge when you use both!! I had the Piranha but upgraded and I am soooo happy that I did. Oh and I use two oxycon's also and I am on natural gas. It runs great. Also, if you do big, sculpure beads, this torch is great for keeping everything nice and hot, so no cracking.

Good luck in whatever you decide. I have also heard that the lynx is a good torch but it likes a lot of oxy and gas.

I have worked on both the Minor and Bobcat, and I have been using the Lynx center fire of the delta for about a month now. The more I use it, the more I like it. However, I have heard good things about the Piranhas and Barracudas too. I didn't know much about them when I ordered my Delta about a year ago, or I might have considered them instead. Definately a heck of a lot cheaper!

The lynx is more expensive because it is a more complex torch. Instead of having 1 oxy and 1 propane per port it has 2 oxys and 1 propane per port. That means it is kind of like building a torch and a half. More work and more materials equals more money.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I upgraded from Minor to Piranha and now I am using Lynx. Lynx is definitely hotter! It also has finer flame that you can place your fingers right next to the flame and do stringer work. Both torches give pinpoint flame, and with your two concentrators, the Lynx will run fine.
