I have several colors, candy corn, moss agate and cherry shake to name a couple. When looking at the websites, the paddles show streaks of other colors running through these. However, when I tried the moss agate it was just a dull olivey black and the cherry one which should have red streaks through the pink was very light colored and the streaks were so tiny i need a magnifiying glass. And the second bead I made with the cherry came out pure white. What am I doing wrong?

Cherry shake you need to work very cool or you'll burn it out (I only had one rod, but I remember that one!)
moss agate is a dark, dark color--if you work it longer, you *might* get more shades from it--& mix it well--it's like a filigrana--with a color inside a color...or it's a good base for silver-glasses.
you likely need to look up each color individually on here to see what folks have done with them--the "cool colors" (from frantz's website) all need to be worked cool or they'll come out really washed out though....

Moss agate needs a bit of mixing or winding on very thinly.

I like it...it's a nice base to sit a frog on!

Yep. Mix it up, wind more as a stringer, rake it, etc.

Hmmm. I jsut placed my first "I picked all the colors myself" order with some of the same colors. I got in on the 60% off sale last week. Anyhow, If anyone has any other ideas to add, I would like to know as well!. Thanks!

Okay thanks I will give that a try. Any yes the cherry shake was very easy to burn all the color out of lol! I made a very nice white bead for the second one lol!. I will spend some time searching the threads today.
When you say mixing do you mean heat up the end, mush it around on itself to mix it up, then apply to mandrel? I did use the moss agate on a butter pecan and it was a pretty olive green with brown outilines. I will be doing that combo again.

For nearly all of the Vet. Odds I find laying down about half the thickness of a normal bead then 'squishing' the melted bit of the rod up and down on the footprint means the oddness comes out. I know that's not a great explanation, sorry. You need to find a way that works for you to mix up the melted glass- imagine if it was a crayon with a core- how would you make that work.

I will play around and see what I can come up with lol!

The ones that look like a color within a color (look at the ends!) I use a marver on & mush them around a lot to "mix up" the glass & shape the bead a LOT...that's one method....I also twirl the rod as I'm applying the hot glass to the mandrel for more "mixing" action--don't just lay it on "flat from the rod" as it melts...

Ok thanks! I will mush it around really well. Can't wait to play around with this!

Wow, I had completely forgotten about these colours! I really didn't much like that batch of odd vetro colours, I think I'm going to package them all up and sell them.

Let us know if you get anything pretty, maybe it will motivate me to try again!

Carolyn I will let you know. The moss agate did turn out really pretty on the butter pecan. Here is a picture of the set i made with that.

I found the one and only set I quite liked with moss agate. It really is a very dark and rather blah colour!
