Alma, if you could post a photo of your beads in this thread it would help a great deal. Also post what type of torch and fuel you are using. I would suspect you are burning your glass and the glass is getting sooty from your flame chemistry. I think people would be able to help you more if they could see what your glass is doing and what type of torch you are using.

SAFETY GLASSES!!!!!!
You do not appear to have didys on. I know that is dangerous...
I have only been at this for 3 years, but I agree with Otter (who has way more experience)

Welding torches don't have the correct propane/oxygen mix to keep the glass soot free.
There are a number of different types of glass torches on the market which will keep the glass clean and the colours truer. Unfortunately, none of them are as cheap as the welding torches.
The minor, the mini cc, the cricket, are all examples of the entry level propane/oxy torches (and are all most of us will ever need).
The other alternative is to get a Hothead torch which is a propane only torch, which is designed for melting glass.

Didy is short for didymonium. Also ACE202. They are protective eyewear which cuts out the sodium flare from glass. It prevents you from damagng your eyes. Link to various eyewear attached.

There are a number of different suppliers for torches and safety glasses. Hopefully someone from Texas will tell you who the local suppliers are.
