View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : where can I find wire mesh screens for separating frit??
I can't believe this has to be so difficult to find! :-?
I have looked all over the web and all I can find is industrial sources that wanna sell it to you in huge rolls, and for example, a 4x4" "sample" piece is $10?!
I have been trying to make my own frit and I really need to separate it into different sizes, like powder, size 00, 0, 1, and 2. So where can I get these sizes, and in small pieces? This is driving me crazy! :(

I wish I knew, I need a set too!
Look on this page: http://www.thompsonenamel.com/products/tools/grinding.htm and scroll down to Stackable Screens. They are quite expensive! Is this what you are looking for? I'm not sure how the mesh sizes in enameling correspond to the sizes of frit.

I can tell you what NOT to do! I read somewhere that bonsai supply places have screens so I did a search and, yes, they do! Spent $25. & s&h= $36.00 and when they arrived, the holes are wayyyyyy to big to be of any use to me. Chalk it up to lesson learned.
Post when you find the screening. Saw great directions on how to make your own by melting the screen into a butter dish with an iron but can't find the screens.
I've been using wire strainers.

Have you tried the hardware store? YOu could make your own. Get some plastic cups at the dollar store and cut the bottoms out. YOu could get some plastic measuring cups, cut the bottom out and tape some screen around the bottom with some duct tape.

I'm friends w/ a glass blower who makes some of his own frit...he uses hardware cloth in the bottom of a coffee can for the larger peices...then uses a flour sifter for the finer frit...works great.

I went to the cookware section of Walmart. I got many different sizes of mesh strainers from a large two handled one to a tiny mesh for tea draining. I think I spent like $15 on all four. Anything bigger just gets mushed up again.:-D

Another vote for strainers here. They even sell them at the dollar store.

I went to a fabric store and purchased some different weave fabrics, from real fine to med. fine. Then I purchased some 3" PVC couplers from the electrical dept. of Home Depot and glued the fabric on the bottom. Trim fabric around, and you have a strainer and enough fabric left to replace worn fabric. The larger strainers you can purchase anywhere from Dollar store to supermarkets.
