Gold fumed stringer?

Hi all, I've been asked to recreate a jewelry set for someone in gold, where this one has silver. Besides switching the metal chain and findings, I'd like to make all the spacers gold instead of the silvery look I got with my Aurae on this set (I'll take pics and stick it in the jewelry gallery later. I'm so happy with it!). I think I will gold fume the spacers, but there is one point where I want a metallic stringer line on the pendant. Can I fume a clear stringer and use it? Or fume a good gather and then pull a stringer. Has anyone created a fumed stringer? I'd love to know how to go about it!
