Hi all!

I just got my Chili Pepper Kiln! Yippee.....my DH got it for me for Valentine's Day! Now...my question is.....can I use an extension cord with the kiln? I don't have an outlet that is close enough to my torch, and don't want to have to get up and walk across the room everytime I want to put a bead in the kiln. One of the manuals said no...and the other one said yes. I know that not using an extension cord is the safest way, but until I figure out another way to do this I wanted to know what you guys do.

Check the wattage (amperage rating) draw of the kiln, then buy a extension cord with a rating that is more than the kiln. IF kiln draws 10-12 amp, you probably will be looking at a 12 gauge cord and it should have a rating of either 15 or 20 amps. Get a cord that is only as long as you need.

Funny thing is extension cord are rated in amount of AMPS they will handle... Kilns are rated in watts they draw.... IF your kiln is rated only in watts, one just divides the power in watts by the voltage... So if kiln draws 1400 watts at 120 volts... 1400/120=11.6 amps.....So get cord rated for 15 amps (next size larger rule)....
