View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : My Beads are in an Art Gallery!
The Olive Hyde Gallery in Fremont, CA is having a show featuring "jewelry in various mediums" and they accepted four of my pieces into the show. Two of my pieces are lampwork necklaces and two are bead embroidery. I am so tickled pink to be in a real art gallery. Here are pictures of my pieces that they have accepted.

The show is running through November 14 and also features the fabulous bead embroidery of Kiowa Rose and her students (a whole room for them)!
Here's the link to the gallery, unfortunately they haven't updated their page with a feature about the show.

Teena,
I found a book on bead embroidery. The book said to sew the beads on manilla folder:confused: which I did but I do not recommend (extra stiff stabilizer works much better). That first piece, a butterfly, now belongs to my mother and I live in mortal fear of it getting wet and all the beads falling off.
I find that there are many instructions for doing this work but one style is to sketch out what you want to bead and then try to force the beads to fill those patterns. That never works for me. I have to let the beads tell me where they want to go.

Opening night was October 16th and it was quite exciting. I hovered around and listened to the comments. If I ever get in a gallery again I'll have to remember to think big. My work looks big when it's against my every day jewelry but it could be much bigger and more bombastic and still look small in an art gallery. The other thing I'll have to remember is that the selling price that you can set in an art gallery is much higher than ebay or etsy. Live and learn!
