OMG.... Just got a batch of beads back from being annealed and all the white, on all the beads devitrified. Has anyone else had this problem with their white? thanks bunches Sandy :0)

I haven't & that's weird.
What white are you using? Moretti? Vetro? CIM? Something else? And which shade/type? (every brand that I know of has at least a couple "shades" or "types" of white--for example, moretti has "white", "anise white" "opalino white" & "alabastro white")
And, what are you mixing it with? Other brands?
I'm trying to think what might have made it go "chalky" & I really can't....
But...sometimes I've been able to get a bit of that off of EDP by soaking it in toiletbowl cleaner (if it's just an edge I've missed when "re-glossing" the bead--it doesn't work if it's the whole bead)...so, if it's just something that's ON the white, vs. "the whole surface of the glass", that *might* work for getting it off.
That's strange, I've never heard of this happening with any of the whites. Are you sure they are glossy on the white parts before you anneal them?
I'm curious! Kiln related?? Make some more beads with the same white, send them to me and I will anneal them and we will see what happens. PM me if you would like to do this. :)
Oh, and send me a short piece of the glass rod too. I'll make a few beads with it also to check it.

I've had this happen with Gaffer Enamel White, but not with Moretti Pastel. Did you work it too hot maybe?

Hum...that IS weird! Wonder what the annealing schedule was - maybe too hot?

Im totally clueless as to what happened. All the beads in the batch came out fine except for the white portions. I used Moretti Pastel white on this little guys. The writing on the back didn't devit but his hands did. As you can see, the white was glossy on all the beads when I took them in.

Now I'm worried because my sweetie took some of my new scuplture beads into the same place and they all have white on them...:0(

I guess the only way to salvage them is to try & etch his little hands?!
thanks for all your thoughts and help on this.........Sandy :0)

Oh ya..... I think the lady at the shop says she anneals the beads somewhere "around" 900. I can't wait to get my kiln from Mike.
Sandy :0)
But 900 is not too much...
If it was really too high (ie. when she said "around 900 she really meant much higher) wouldn't they have started to melt. Maybe she hit the spot between un-melted & melted. That temp is higher than 900. Are there any "dents" or depressions in the beads?
I don't see any devit in those pics.

I don't see any devit and 900 is lower than I garage at.
ETA I'm thinking those are the before pics, right???

I assumed that too.... (confused) are those the after pictures?
