Minor torch question

Hi again!

I am new to my minor and have a few questions.
I cant seem to get a fine point for detail work- is this normal?
When I do get a finer point it seems more like an oxidizing flame that is not too hot. Is that what I am looking for?

When I read the arrow springs tutorial on torches it said that there should be a smallish dark blue area in my flame that is sharp but not too sharp for a neutral flame- do they really mean dark blue cause I see nothing like that.

For probably the millionth time thank you for your time to answer my questions. I hope that someday I will be able to contribute more to this site!

It depends upon what you consider a fine point. How small are you trying to get?

When you try to get a small flame, does the flame look like it's blue with clear streaks going through it?
