I know Pixie Dust is one way....but are there any other ways to create a pearlescent or luminous look? I saw a picture of some beads that were made with a pearlescent enamel...anyone know where to find it?

Also does anyone know if it is possible to use Pearlex Pigment Powders with glass?

TIA!

Pearlex can be used with glass but not all of the colors turn out nice. Try this link: http://www.listen-up.org/kitty/beads/pearl/charts.htm

There is a second "newer" color set available. Don't think all of those colors are listed here, but, since most of the newer ones are brighter colors, I'm guessing they won't work too well.

I tried pearlex powders a long time ago, and I didn't like the way they turned out at all. Some of them burn and turn grey. Pixie dust coats the bead better and looks nicer, IMO.

If you've got the PearlEx powders go for it! If you click on the link above, you'll see that the interference colors are pretty good. You have to work it last, though. Make your bead, roll it in the PearlEx and then into the flame for a few turns then out. You'll lose the color if you work it too long in the flame - not enough and the color will rub off later - so it's a fine balance.

Have fun and experiment!

There are also Carefree Lusters from Thompson Enamels.

Oh thanks you guys! Kathy, that is an excellent resource!

I may lean towards those Thompson lusters then...I don't actually have any pearlex..but I have seen it at Michael's...and wondered...I guess it is all in the color. Do you know where to buy the Thomspon Lusters? :)
