Where can I find it and where can I find it cheap?

With copper mesh, is the only requirement that it must be 100% copper?

Yup, it needs to be pure (or very close) copper, or you'll get yukky stuff.
Gail Joseph (GG Glass) sells a really nice variety of copper mesh sizes, and even offers an assortment. I found a different type of copper (looks like a stamped-out grid instead of woven mesh) at an art supply store in the mixed media department. PM me your address and I'll send you a few inches to play with.

I saw some at a local art store, that said it was 100% copper, and was wondering if that would work...
Sorry, Julie, I didn't mean to hijack your thread! I can send you some, too, when I go pick some up.

Any tricks for using copper mesh? I have some great stuff but 3 out of the four focals I used it in cracked after being batch annealed. (Luckily, in contradiction of Murphy's Law, the one that survived was my favorite!) Are there % or layering or heating rules for this stuff to balance out its quick expansion rate (especialy when batch annealing)? Or will I just have to take my chances until I can get a kiln?
I also happen to have some ultra-fine brass mesh (I think it's brass... it's quite yellow) - does *that* work in glass?
Thanks!
