Ok I have been wondering for ages....I guess I could just try it but I don't have any glass snips...

How is this done:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37646986

I mean the bit with the silver glass that is encased that has all the lines down it...
Do you snip all the way along the raised stringer before you melt it in or do you cut it with a razor blade all the way down?
Lots of people use this in their beads and it has stumped me for ages...

I am about to buy some etching liquid and want to know if I need to put glass snips in with the order to be able to do this style....

thanks everyone!

Leanne

i could be wrong but i thought it was a tight twisty of clear and opaque and silver glass melted flat

but like i said, could be wrong

Did you try contacting the maker of the bead and asking?

You don't need any snips, I just use a small pair of cheap scissors to do any glass snipping.

Hi Leanne!
Both your suggestions will work, but the razorblade is the easier way I think. Apply stringer, cut, reduce, put clear on top, melt in (not too hot).

I didn't know if I needed to be a member to ask her a question....cause I don't have an etsy account.....

thanks for the answer afina...I have to get one of those special razorblade on handle tools...the etching solution supplier sells them for $7 ...

one hot beader...yeah I read that once I guess I should give it a go....

There is a whole thread devoted to this just down the page. Here, it also includes many links to other threads that describe this. http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148961

Hi Leanne ... Take a look at this link, it's regarding the use of the V-Grooved marver and it may give you some helpful tips:

with that bead, though, it looks like a twisty.

If it is a "pleat bead" then there are several threads...just do a search using "pleat bead" . Here are a couple of the threads that'll give you more info on twisties used and how:

http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67739&highlight=pleat+bead
http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76691&highlight=pleat+bead
And here's a link to a thread regarding a YouTube video on pleated beads (see #1 post):

Hopefully some of this will help.

188976188978I think this is what your talking about and I bought a cheap set of glass sissors to do mine with. http://www.theflowmagazine.com/pdf/Boro_Segments.pdf I haven't tried it on soft glass but I feel that it would work. one of those I didn't put clear on top of the cuts these are really fun to make. I made these out of boro.

Hey that is my bead lol

Okay I just learned that technique last week after whining and asking lots of questions on here. It is done with a razor blade and covered in clear. Very easy technique actually.

I did mine with a pair of sissors I don't have any of the razor blade tools. I tried to do it with a knife but that didn't work, the sissors worked wonderful for me.
I wish I wouldn't have sold them now on etsy LOL I loved how these 3 came out.

Gemsinbloom, You really make lovely beads, I would have never dreamed that you could get that with a razor blade. I guess I need to find one of those and try it. Are yours done with the silver glass, I haven't had much luck with any of the silvered glass except in boro and I don't understand that. LOL
love your beads,
Sandra

Thanks, yes I used Psyche and umm........oh ya Ekho........you can achieve different looks/colors depending on what base color you use. You really have to play around and not be afraid to use up your silver glass. I keep a notebook beside me as I work to jot down what I am doing in case I come across a winner. I also jot down what does not work, fuglies lol

These are my favorite so far and I am also doing some versions with a crystal press. Cooking atm..

Most of mine turn out to be mudd LOL, I am going to work on the silver glass more when I get my torch set back up. I am going to figure it out or use it up, one or the other. LOL

Funny thing is I am on a minor and can get some of the boro ones to do something and the 104 I can't and I don't understand that LOL I have been studying LE and some tuts the whole week I have been off work and hopefully I will figure it out. I want to do this so bad.

I really like your favorites, they really look good and the silvered ivory looks good with them
