I think I remember that there was a tutorial on how to make this sea shell/ocean life cane somewhere. I could've sworn it was on Corina's site, but if it was - it's gone now.

Is there anyone who would be so kind as to walk me through the steps? I'm sure I can't be the only person who'd like to learn the technique.:-k

Oh please, oh please?[-o<

It's a striped cane. You attach it to your bead and snip it, then poke the centre to draw the stripes to the middle.

Hi Jena! Actually, it'a quite simple. Just take a rod of white, and make a little barrel on one end. Then paint on stripes in a contrasting color down the barrel. Heat and pull into a thick cane. You can add the the design by poking it into the bead and nipping it off or by slicing it first. Once the murrini has melted in the bead, then use your poker to draw the stripes into the center to create the starburst effect.

I did a search on Corina's cache and found her original instructions. Let me know if the link doesn't work. :)

Okay, then do this....

Go to Google.com and copy and paste the following:

http://www.corinabeads.com/html/DrCorina.htm

Search on that web address. You'll get one result. If you click on that result you'll get a "Not Found" error. As such, click on the link in the:
"Show Google's cache of www.corinabeads.com/html/DrCorina.htm"

That will pull up the page.

Really, it's that easy? Thanks Angela and Karla! (by the way, can't get the link to open ) I've got to run pick up the girls, but I'm going to give it a try as soon as I get home!!!

Again, thanks a million!!

edited to add: I see you've added how to get to the archive. Yippee!

Wow. Thanks for the explaination. I have wondered about that for a while too. I only heard the complicated "buy and optic mold" dealy. That's neat!

There's a cheapie fix for that too. Just get a slab o'wood and pound nails into it to form a circle:

Obviously, yours will be nicer :-D
Leave about an inch or so nail head sticking out.
Then, cut off all the nail head tops and polish so they are smoothish rounded on top.

Make a glass blob slightly smaller then the circle and push it straight down into the circle o' nails (like you were making a maria).

Mmmmm...burning wood.

When you pull it out, the nails will have left an indentation in the maria shape that you can fill with other colors of glass. Or you can just encase the whole shabang in clear for a "starish" shape.
Heat and pull and snip for custom millefiori. Makes bitchin' floral canes too.

You can vary the shape of the mold by using different sized nails or putting them in different patterns.

I learned how to do this from Shirley "Charlie" Warner at one of the first times I visited her studio. She was using them to blow perfume bottles - she's just an awesome artist!

You can also use a set of grabbers if you have one.

Kevan, the optic mold is the best solution - or the circle of nails - but you can also just use a striped cane. Works just as well and is cheaper than the mold.
I used one at Michael Barley's, and it was great though. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could find one!

I found a small size whisk and cut off the ends. I plunge the glass down into the middle.

Steph, that is totally clever!
