I have had to move my HH setup into the basement of my house. My 30lb tank of MAPP is outside of a basement window. So, the tank is higher then my torch. Should I raise the hose up higher then the tank and then sweep it into the wall to the torch. I think I read somewhere that the tank should be lower then the torch. Sometimes I get a small orange flare up and sometimes some beads have a black smudge on them. Could this be the oil in the tank getting to my torch?

PS, I will be upgrading to a Bobcat in a few weeks. I just got my concentrator. How far should I have the concentrator from my torch (open flame)? Also, being in the basement, the most convenient window to work in front of is 8' from the gas furnace. Should the concentrator be that close to the furnace?

There is really no "rule" that tank has to be lower than torch... In some cases where the is a accumulation of "gunk" in hose it will drain back to tank if tank is lower than torch, other wise it will eventually drain to torch head, hence the occasional orange flare...
There is no rule or restriction on how far oxy con needs to be from torch, it can be right under bench where torch is mounted or way across room... It's actually better, closer to torch because there is less pressure loss due to hose length.

Thanks Dale. I recently moved my torch to another bench in the basement. When I removed the hose from the torch a lot of oil came out of that end of the hose, so I suppose it isn't going back into the tank, but lying in the lowest point of the hose, which is in the basement.
I have a double hose setup for my feul and oxygen. Both hoses are the same length. Should I have a hose made up for the oxygen if I want a shorter hose or should I just shorten the long one? Or just leave the hose the length it is?

Hose length is really not an issue... As long as they are not excessive long....
You can do what you wish... If shortening them fits into your studio scheme by all means do it... For most part it's ascetics....
