Those'll work. I also use copper jacketed graphite electrodes from the welding shop. Just pop one in a junker pencil sharpener to get some of the graphite off and voila, cheap pokey thing.

Just be careful, graphite conducts heat well, so be careful of the holding end.

I got a pack of 6 graphite pencils from WH Smiths for £3.49, they're fabby.

You can find similar in any good art shop, just ask.

Thanks for the tip Tom,
looks like you got a better deal than me Kirsty (impulse buyer)

You can get them here even at Michael's, in the drawing section. Or at Pearl Art, Dick Blick, or Binder's. Accounting for currency exchange, they're a similar price to Kirsty's find.

I have a couple of these, and have shaped the ends to form long sharp points for deep holes, and wide short points for large shallow holes. You can do this with a pencil sharpener with a big hole, as used for eye pencils. The plastic coating needs to be removed or you get exciting flames when using .
