I found these surfing around, you add glass to them to make a ring.
How would you keep it from moving around while winding on the glass? Any thoughts or if you've done anything like this I would love to see pictures.

Put bead release on your mandrel and then slip the ring on, let dry and make your bead. I've seen these somewhere before and don't remember them being that expensive.

Since they are fine silver, why wouldn't they melt in the flame?

I use them frequently. They are tricky though, you definitely have to heat quickly to apply glass and keep direct flame away from the flanged edge. It helps to cover the edge with bead release as well so that it stays protected.

They're pretty expensive but handy!

Thanks Lea and Carol- These look really neat- I am taking sometime off of the torch and just getting back to some learning and finding out about new products- helps take my mind off things.

Great writeup, Dwyn! Only point to add is what I said below -- if you carefully scwoosh (technical term) the beadrelease to at least semi-cover the flange, it will protect it from too much flame.

I bought some of the cores to make Pandora beads. I did (without realizing it was a good thing) what Lea did re: scwooshing bead release onto the edges, let it dry overnight, then went to town!

You do have to work a little cooler and cleaning the bead release out was a little bit of a pain, but I am going to buy more. Until the price of PMC drops and I can make my own based on the great chapter in PMC Technic written by Barbara Becker Simon that is!
