website and searches

not sure if this is where i should ask but i need to start somewhere..i finally got enough nerve to set up a website, now how do i get people to find it..how does one get their website to come up in a google search etc..thx for any advice you have..

Key words, meta tags and content. Specific content.
Put your website address on your business cards, and on all your signatures for emails forum posts and even ebay auctions. Word of mouth is always the best advertisement. Talk about it, talk about it, talk about it, talk about i-it.http://smilies.sofrayt.com/fsc/laugh.gif

I would also make small discrete banner and put it in your signature line and when somebody clicks on it it taken them to your site , much like it does with your present link...(same as example in my sig line).

The primary item the search engines crawlers look for is the title of the page. Make sure you have good titles in the <title></title> tags.

Secondly they key off anthing in headline style tags ... <h1> <h2> etc.

Next they look at actual text on the pages. You need good content that uses a lot of words you would expect people to search on.

Finally they may look at meta tags - but these are mostly skipped since they are so easily abused.
