Alright....I've done this twice now pulling tube. Last time was about a year ago. I got a vertical cut on my middle finger that took 4 stitches. I was pulling a tube with my friend jesse (jehglass). He was on one end, I was on the other. SNAP!!! The rod broke in my hand. There goes my finger.

This time it's my palm. 6 more stitches and I'm out of work for a bit. DAMMIT!!! Crappy timing as usual. I was encasing my tube with a 12mm rod and SNAP!!!
There goes my palm. It was so crazy because I was working by myself and I had to run around and turn everything off with blood trailing everywhere. Oh yeah...it was a really great time.....

So why did this happen? BEACAUSE I AM AN IDIOT!!! I even thought about my last mishap before I started. I made sure the rods were welded perfectly, no stress. This happened because I once again decided to use welded rods instead of a freshie. Two situations....same outcome. I feel so STUPID!!! You think I would have learned the first time.

Oh well...maybe next time I will think twice and act once.](*,)

Wow, that sounds really scary! (*vows never to pull tubing!*) Is there any type of leather gloves that you could wear when pulling tube that would protect your hands? I'm thinking of these ones because I just got the catalogue.

I hope you heal quickly. It sounds not fun at all! -Heather

Those gloves look great. I don't think they would work for me though. I have something similar I bought the first time I cut myself pretty bad doing this technique. I definately need to feel what I'm doing, but I really appreciate you looking out! It will be a week tomorrow since "the incident" and I'm hoping to get back to work...*with fingers crossed*....tomorrow. Thanks for your thoughts! Your posts have kept my spirits up!

I thought of those gloves because they're made of goatskin, which is much thinner and supple-er than cowhide or pigskin (or so Lee Valley claims). I don't know if that's quite good enough for your dexterity needs, though! Anyway, just me thinking out loud, so to speak. :) Hope your hand is feeling better! -Heather
